Three men are accused of trying to sell a stolen guitar to the salesman who originally sold it to the man it was stolen from, police said.

Jeff Blount returned home late Sunday after a performance with his disco cover band Superfreak, and left his prized Modulus five-string bass in his truck.

The next day began on a sour note when he saw that his guitar had been stolen from the back seat.

"First thing I did was call the police," Blount said

Then he called the Guitar Center employee who sold him the $4,500 instrument, asking him to keep his eyes and ears open, Blount said.

"I had a feeling that they might be coming in,” Blount said. “Within about 30 minutes of that, he texted me back saying that the guitar was there in the store and they had a couple guys trying to sell it. I was shocked. He said he called the police."

Zackery Devereaux, Raul Rodriguez and Trevor Dockrey were arrested, police said.

Officers asked Blount to look at the items in the men’s sports utility vehicle for any other stolen property.

"There was dozens of phones and GPS and cameras and tools," Blount said.

Devereaux, Rodriguez and Dockrey are suspected of breaking into to several cars in Blount's gated neighborhood, police said.

"Glad everything kind of turned out the way that it did and these guys are in jail," Blount said.

Devereaux, Rodriguez and Dockrey are facing charges of receiving and concealing stolen property, police said.

Minnesota Burglary Suspects Arrested After Pocket-Dialing 911
Two burglary suspects were arrested in the middle of a robbery after one of them accidentally pocket-dialed 911 and a dispatcher overheard them discussing the crime.

Todd J. Weiss, 31, and Justin G. Evans, 38, were arrested at the scene of an attempted burglary around 4:45 a.m. on April 1.

A 911 dispatcher first got a call and a hang-up, said Maplewood Police Chief Paul Schnell.

Then another call came in from the same number, and the dispatcher heard someone having a conversation about where police would be and the dangers of being caught.

"If it goes off, they are right across the street," the suspect said, according to the charges.

Schnell said it was "pretty clear based on some of that conversation that this was a burglary.”

The dispatcher could see the location of the call: a car repair shop on White Bear Avenue and County Road D.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found the two men in dark clothing. One was holding a television and the other a box.

The suspects dropped the objects and ran. Police ordered them to stop, then released police dogs.

The door to the shop had been pried open, and the owner claimed several items were missing.

According to police documents, Weiss refused to speak without his attorney, and Evans claimed he had taken more than a dozen xxxx and "appeared to be under the influence of the substance.”

Guys who leave $4500 instruments in their car aren't too bright either.

I once had a kid try and sell me a guitar that was stolen from one of my students :embarrassed:

I've had three basses stolen over the years.
one was stolen exactly one month after I bought it.
and I predicted that it would happen.

of the three, we found one.
the thief. I mean, not the bass. it was long gone.
and, oddly enough, it was the bass I liked the least of the three.

The problem is with petty criminals is that they usually fall into that line of work because they're stupid, thus they do stupid stuff whilst in the act. How many of these cop camera shows have you seen someone get busted with a bunch of drugs or a gun or something int heir car because they get stopped for having a parking fine or no road tax?....

That Minnesota thing. White Bear Lake and County Road D? I know the area. A bit weird of an area to get "loads of cash, jewels and money and stuff". Dopey people!
