The one second from left is a Sig P239...9mm single stack mag...
...I find the Sig is better balanced and easier to get back on target for a double-tap, due, I think, to the all-steel slide, unlike the Glock's composite slide...
If you have smaller hands you may find both the 226 and the 17 a bit unwieldy due to the double mags...if you can, try something like mine before you make the final decision...
BTW...Live fire is the awesome-est...
The Glock's slide is all steel - it's the frame that's composite.

maybe...it was back in '94...they had the barrel floating loose in the bushing, and when in the firing position you could shake it around and hear the barrel rattling in the bushing...just horrible...

I never got to shoot the 9mm while I was in the Air Force, even though if we went to war i was supposed to be qualified on it. The AF used Berettas.....
I DID qualify on the .38 revolver though, before they made the switch to semi-autos

Yep, sounds like an early Smith. The ones I own are all 3rd gen, but I'm really itching to get one of the M&Ps that they introduced a couple years ago. Very, very nice...the compact 9 is a perfect concealed carry piece.
I would agree with you that Tude should check the 239, except that I doubt she's allowed to choose a compact for a duty sidearm, they probably want her to carry a full size weapon.

They prefer we have full size but it's not required. My friend is going to carry the Glock 19. She also has little midget hands. I'm not a petite woman; I'm 5'9" and I have long fingers. I'm gonna go with a full size.

I carry a 2007 S&W M&P .45, 4.5" barrel. It isn't going to get surgical at the range, like say a Colt Commander II, but it is a fantastic carry. It's a double-action, so the first round will go low or low-left until you get used to it. I call that first round 'The Lawyer Round': if you shoot someone, you WILL need a lawyer, regardless of the circumstances. That first round makes sure you put some thought and effort into it. The two characteristics I like for it re: a carry is it's dependability and ease in breakdown and cleaning. The grips also come in small, med, and large, which was nice for me since I have relatively small hands. They can be changed out quickly and easily.
I prefer S&W to Glock, but I think its a good idea that you're checking out Glocks. Like others here, I also recommend trying the Sigs.

This is actually one of the funnest guns I've ever shot.
A simple PVC potato cannon. Aquanet Hairspray was the best propellent - and after every five or six shots I'd shoot a round with PLEDGE to keep the barrel and inside waxed and smooth.
We put a big hole in a steel wheel barrow before with one of those... dangerous as all hell but very fun.

That looks a little more wicked than what we used, ours was just a plain pvc pipe with a chamber and a BBQ igniter. Years ago, when I was really fond of Jim Beam, I let a buddy shoot me in the stomach with it from about 10 feet away. The potato vaporized into nothing, and I had a very nasty looking green and yellow bruise about the size of a basketball for around 2 weeks.
Wouldn't recommend that.
As a UKer I've only ever had the opportunity to go to a shooting range in Latvia.
It's pretty fun but those things are scary even just to hold and it doesn't help if you're all sorts of fucked up with 30 odd other fucked up tourists.

I went to the range a couple of weeks ago. Got to shoot my shotgun and a friends 40 and 45 caliper hand guns. Pretty intense as I'm not a regular at this kind of thing. However, my home was broken into about 7 weeks ago and I wanted to have some practice just in case shit hit the fan, so to speak. Fortunately they saw that I was home and ran away so nothing came of it except I had the shit scared out of me. Nothing was taken, but a few of my cats did manage to get outside via the broken window.
