THEY STOLE OUR POWER SUPPLY”: THOMAS BLUG ACCUSES BLACKSTAR OF PLAGIARISING BLUGUITAR’S AMP1

IDK, the one arrow is pointing to what looks like a plain old toroidal transformer and the other to something that looks like a branded production component. It would be nice of him to provide a more detailed explanation of what exactly he believes they stole.

Let’s say they did reverse engineer some proprietary components only available to Bluguitar….any different than all the other clone pedals and amps?

Also, he mentioned his sounds better than the Blackstar but, didn't mention his is waaaaay uglier than the Blackstar.

That was my first thought. Everybody in that industry have been plundering each other since the first guitar amps were based on radios and gramophones or whatever. If you really want to keep your shit proprietary you patent it like Mesa and Peavey do. Blackstar didn’t patent some of their circuits, Bugera copied the entire HT-5, and you don’t hear Blackstar whining.

Blug stated the components were used in other applications. So he does not manufacture them. Sooner or later someone else will figure it out as well that they can be used in the same application. Is it something he could have protected with a patent or is he just pissed that someone figured it out and it appears they stole the idea that he almost admits to stealing from something else?

The coils don’t even look the same.
The windings on the Blackstar are kinda sloppy.
Not that it matters to the function. As long as the specs fit the circuit.
It might affect longevity in some cases. I don’t know the math and physics on these types. It might not matter that the windings are a mess.

Even if the specs measure to exactly the same values, there’s not a lot of leeway with power supplies for creativity in getting from input to required output.

"We took one wind of wire off the transformer output" or some such nonsense.

In other news, I went through a period of listening to a bunch of Thomas Blug stuff recently. He is a killer player with some great, chewy Strat tones.

I was going to say, it really really sucks if they did do a blatant copy....

... but they sure as fuck knew how to make it look like a Guitar Pedal instead of a Nintendo. :embarrassed:
