I'm pretty much of a newbee here but an old fart almost everywhere else. I like this place because it's not the worst of both worlds. In that other world you either get the over regulated political correctness to the point of nausea (forum name withheld) or you find yourself in Dodge City with body armor a must. I drop by here on occasion simply to get out of the flack zone and touch base with those who have good humor, a common sense perspective, and seem to know their shit, without taking it all to seriously. It's a nice place place to hang out folks and thanks for that.

Yeah I hear ya. I actually wrote a tune last year about 911, recorded it with a couple friends and married it to the video that inspired it (with consent). Well I posted it on the other site without any kind of qualification or opinion to commemorate the date and victims of 911. It sparked a little debate that lasted all of about two days before they locked the thread. Wow, really?

This forum also seems to put a lot less emphasis on catching the latest internet gear deal too which I like. I felt manipulated at times over there and even wondered about shills once or twice. At the very least it was full of shopaholics. What did JJ call it, like the home shoppers channel or something. I mean there is some serious O/C hoarding goin on over there, not to mention the gear flippers that post NGDs only to promote them for resale.
 
I find the new HCEG gives me a headache, and I really despise the fact that the actual forum space is so small on the screen. I guess I'll get used to it in time, but for now, I'm spending way more time here.

We've pretty much told people we can't have politics and whatnot here because it gets out of control fast and I can't been seen as siding with one group or another in front of our customers.

I played the national anthem and a political event a few years ago and shared the video because there was a great story that went with the gig...almost everyone was cool with leaving politics out of the thread but one guy had to start a shit storm that got himself banned and the thread locked. It never ends well....

I think we fall prey to musical consumerism just like anywhere else but I think the membership here is a little less prone to buying into fads.

Except for reverend guitars. We all seem to have bought those :embarrassed:

Yah, I probably didn't say that the way I intended. I really wasn't trying to address "Political Correctness" so much as the "Up Tight" and defensive stuff that happens so often on some other forums. I always try to leave politics out of this it. I mean we're here to talk guitars and such, right? All I'm really looking for (and I think this place has that) is a little shmooze time about my favorite thing and some folks who don't get put off by my sometimes wise ass sense of humor. I like it here because for the most part I've found that I'm talking to people who don't have an agenda or a point to prove. They're just talking guits.
