Some common complaints about the Parker Fly guitar that make them not appeal to the masses are:

* Non-traditional shape
* Upper-horn digs in your chest
*Can't swap pickups easily
*Can't hang it on a guitar hanger because of headstock shape
*Sounds sterile

This new model, the DragonFly, seeks to fix those problems.

Do you like it? Why or why not?

Looks like it will come in some of these options:

*swamp ash 22 fret HSS
*figured Walnut 24 fret HH
*figured walnut 22 fret HSS
*spruce 22 fret HSS
*Mahogany 24 fret HH

according to thread on TGP, still in the prototyping stage.

I do like the look more than the older Parkers.

That said, did they abandon any of their state-of-the-art features that made Parkers unique, or are all of the good parts still intact?

the only guitar they make that doesn't use the carbon fibre frame and all that is the P-38, which i've never liked. all the high end models are made the same as when Ken owned the company. they've just expanded the product offering and gotten into other woods.

at least that's what i've been told.

Why again, do we need another Strat Knockoff ?

Its actually full of innovations...I've never really been into the "modern" aesthetic of the guitar but this one seems like its more into my personal "zone". I'd give it a try and see if I like it where the earlier Parker models did nothing for me.

whereas i always liked the design, but just couldn't get along with the upper horn. that this takes care of that issue means i can actually check out the guitar for its innovations.

So I went home and played my guitars last night, and my initial GAS has subsided. But, I'm still excited to check one out when they're released. There's not a whole lotta guitars I can say that about.

I'm surprised that the "need" for new guitars hasn't hit me at all in a few years. I'm pretty happy with what I've got...the only thing I might want is some sort of semi hollow or Jazz guitar but a good one definitely isn't in my budget...

I'm just trying to channel my rampant consumerism into other directions. Ano another guitar is the last thing I need.

A Pitchfactor, on the other hand, now that's something different!

I sold my AC50 this morning...got nearly twice what I paid for it but less than its worth. Still came out ahead, I guess.

I have a whole shopping list of stuff to get with the money but its all recording gear for the studio...otherwise I'd be getting a Timefactor on Monday from Tone Merchants..
