The official SKYRIM thread!

The perk system and even the inventory in Skyrim is so seamless (especially with the Kineckt) that Oblivion feels clumsy. The "authentic" fonts kinda ruin it too. I'm actually enjoying the quests now that I've dug in a bit. I'm doing Thieves Guild/Dark Brotherhood. Another thing that's weird is I'm only level 3, but have a ton of hours into playing. Leveling seems much slower.

Authentic fonts can be changed. It's really easy. I did it even before I downloaded the Morrowind Overhaul 3.0.

As far as Morrowind Levelling? In any guild, you have to meet the pre-requisites to move up. If you find what factions you belong to, it'll tell you what skills you need to hit the next level, which usually involves finding a trainer.

They can be changed if you're on a computer. Not on Xbox.

Screen shots make me wanna try it. I think I can get it electronically thru STEAM, right ?

I have a killer rig for this, but no time....

The worst part about RPG is starting out so incredibly low, level and skills wise.

Yes, you can. And Skyrim's enemies are generally levelled. You're not going to hit the stuff that can one-hit-kill you while you're in the beginning stages, generally speaking. There are a few that you'll find will be very difficult, but none that are unbeatable. There's always a way around.

The time factor? Yeah, that'll be an issue. This game sucks time like a black hole. The sick thing is that you won't care. Once you start getting the swing of it, it's the most addicting game I've ever played.

Quite correct, and my apologies. Knowing what I now know about Bethesda's games, there's no way I would play them on any console...PC is really the only way to go.

It's definitely the way to go if you want to build and maintain a gaming PC, keep up with the patches, and sit at the computer desk all day. I prefer a standard controller, a big screen tv, and my couch. :embarrassed:

Speed smiting/enchanting is my least favorite thing about skyrim as a whole.

What, exactly, is the point of playing a game, especially a massive game like skyrim, if you just spend 5-10 hours smiting/enchanting to ridiculous levels?

I don't get it. You should be out there experiencing the game and leveling as you would, but so many just wham-bam level up these two...and for what purpose? It's silly, to me at least. If you've maxed out everything else, go for it. But otherwise, I think it hurts the true experience.

You CAN do it that way, but by no means do you have to do it. You can hit the Armor Cap (somewhere around 550) pretty early on, without even coming close to maxing out your Smithing skills...even earlier if you finish a quest like "Fathoming The Depths", which triggers in Riften at level 12, IIRC.

If you believe in excess, though...

Don't be silly. You know you can hook up a PC to pretty much any HD set, and my computer's nothing to write home about regarding specs.

Is one shotting an Elder Dragon excess? Because if so I absolutely DO believe in it.

Oh, so do I. In fact, I'm fanatical about it. :) Count Grishnakh disagreed with me on that, but screw it...if I can do it legitimately and without exploits (or mods), I'm totally down.

Last I checked, I had my strongest One Handed Weapon up to about 720 per hit. Legendary Dragon? Bring it on, bitch. It'll be dead before it even knows it's landed.

I don't like a fair fight when I'm attacking roving bands of Thalmor.

Console.

And yeah, I kill Thalmor on sight. They never see me coming.

Reason I was asking is because the Console has some pretty exploitable glitches that can get you ridiculously overpowered. The Unofficial Skyrim Patch on PC that I use closes almost all of them, but some of them are awesome, and I wish they'd left them alone.

How far have you gotten in it? Anything you're still waiting to complete?

This was some crazy shit, right here. See if you can count how many things died during one melee. Don't forget the count the visible Ash piles, which were either things I necromanced, or were necromanced by the horde of Volkihar Vampires that decided to join in on the fun...

Ha! Awesome. I once fought 2 dragons, 2 giants, 4 bandits, 2 necromancers, and a sabrecat all together. Luckily the dragons went after the giants while I whiddled away at all of them.

Wow, I'm so late to this thread!
I played Oblivion for years, literally, it's the reason I bought an XBox. I've played through most of Skyrim too but not all. My tips and tricks revolve around mage type characters. For my current Skyrim main I got Conjuration to 100 as fast as possible.

Here's how:
I chose High Elf for max mana and as soon as I started the game, I went to Whiterun and bought Soul Trap, then I went out the gate, killed a mudcrab, and cast Soul Trap on it's corpse till my mana was gone, Wait 1 hour, repeat.
When I leveled up I chose Magic every time - more mana = more casts = less waiting
It doesn't take long to get 100 Conjuration and 300 or so mana.

Here's why:
By the time you reach 100 you can scrape some money together and buy the tome for Conjur Dremora Lord
At 100 Conj. you get the perk Twin Souls = 2 Dremora Lords = unstoppable minions!

Honestly, I don't carry weapons or armor, I just send in the Dremora Lords and loot the corpses as I go  This is the character I use if I just want to get through a storyline without the pain of hacking my way through every dungeon along the way.

clearly, I'm doing it wrong...

Here's what you need to know to One-Shot a Dragon:

Get your Alchemy up to 100 - you don't need to fill up the Alchemy Perk tree, though...just the ones that increase the potency of helpful benefits. This process takes a while...always keep in mind that the higher the value of the potions you create, the more the skill improves. If you make one potion worth 2000 septims, it'll increase your alchemy skill much quicker than if you made 10 potions that each are worth 100 septims in value.

In raising Alchemy, it's quality (value) over quantity (the number of potions you create) that'll raise the skill the fastest.

At the same time, go out and fill up every soul gem you can, regardless of size, or whether a petty soul is using up a Greater Soul Gem. You're going to be gunning to max out your Enchanting Skills as well...and again, it's not necessary to fill up your perk tree; just the ones that have to do with enchanting weapons and armor. When you're boosting your Enchanting skill, the size of the soul gem or the item is irrelevant. You could enchant 50 Iron Daggers each with a Petty Soul Gem, or 50 Daedric Warhammers with 50 Grand Soul Gems, and your enchanting skill will increase at the exact same rate. In this case, it's absolutely quantity over quality.

To get things to immensely strong levels, you'll have to dis-enchant any single piece of gear that raises your Alchemy Skill. You can then enchant a whole set (I use any Circlet, Necklace, Ring and Gloves) of alchemy gear using a filled Grand or Black Soul gem for each piece. Now you can make yourself Stronger Enchanting potions...which, when you drink them, raises the strength of your next enchantment.

Which means that you now make a whole NEW set of alchemy gear, stronger than the last one. Which, again, means stronger potions.

You repeat this process over time until, in the Vanilla game with the Unofficial Patch, you'll have 4 pieces of Alchemy Enchanting equipment that each raise your Skill while you're wearing them to 32%. Your enchanting potions will max out around 32% stronger, and your Blacksmithing potions will improve your ability by about 130%.

Wait. We're not done. You'll need to create a set of blacksmithing gear at an Enchanting Station, as well....by using your maxed-out Enchantment potions to boost their stats!

Once you're done, you'll have a set of blacksmithing gear (I'd recommend a Blacksmith Apron, Gloves, Ring and Necklace)...that each raises your smithing ability by 32%. While you're wearing this set of Smithing gear, you'll now drink a "Fortify Smithing" potion that you've created using your maxed-out Alchemy gear. This potion raises your skill an additional 130% for 30 seconds, ON TOP OF the 130% boost that you get from the enchanted Blacksmithing clothing.

Long story short? If you've maxed out your One-Handed skill, you can create an Iron Dagger that does over 400 points damage per hit, not including a 28 point per hit Fire/Frost/Shock bonus. It'll kill just about anything in the game with three swipes.

This is a really rough outline, and I left a lot of specific details out...but that's the general idea. After installing Dragonborn, I've got a Dragonbone Sword that deals over 700 points of Damage on it's own, with another 200 of Chaos Damage.

You can go even more insane if you're using exploits on a console. You can get 5 pieces of both enchanting and Smithing armor, because of an unintended bug in the unpatched Vanilla game. I also didn't get into Dual Enchanting one set of gear that allows you to boost both Alchemy AND Smithing at the same time....

Are you playing on the console, or on the PC? If you're using a PC, did you install the Unofficial Skyrim Patch? Also, do you have Dawnguard DLC installed?

I'm playing on XBox and I don't have any patches or DLC. I'm so behind the times with that stuff. I know there's a ton my xbox can do, but I still treat it like a Nintendo LOL. I play a game, I turn it off :)
I need to look into the DLC, I don't even know if I can get it. My console doesn't have a HD, just 4Gb flash.

BTW, Thanks for that Enchanting/Alchemy post. It's Brilliant! :thu:
