Dig it! The great guitar weigh-off

II got inspired from a thread on TGP. I just stepped on a scale with and without a bunch of my electrics, and the results are as follows (accuracy is not guaranteed to within anything!):

MIM std tele: 8.4 lbs
Godin LG-SP90: 8.6 lbs
Les Paul "Junior Special" P90: 7.6 lbs
Am Pro Strat: 7.8 lbs
Breedlove prototype "Z Series" 7.8 lbs
Guild Starfire II: 6.2 lbs

So, I guess (other than the Guild - which is a full hollowbody) none of my guitars are what would normally be considered lightweights, and none would probably be considered real heavyweights, either. Interestingly, most fit my perception, but I would have sworn the LP was heavier than the strat. It could be that the body is more compact - concentrating the weight more?
 
Interesting. Everybody talks about LPs but, way not so much about everything else. Would love to join in but, wife does not allow a scale in our house.
 
I have a digital scale, and I’m kinda obsessed with guitar weight. I dislike heavy guitars. That said, I’m generally happy with anything sub-8 lbs. I have a few that are in the 8.5 range, and that’s pretty much my max.
 
The only two guitars of mine that I know the weight of are my Les Paul STandard (9.6lbs) and my McFeely 454 (6.5lbs).

I'm the same way. I like guitars in the 7's. My StingRay is the heaviest at 8.4 and then the McFeely at 7.8.
 
My "Les Paul" weighs 9.6, as does my Warmoth Regal/Royale (which is weight relieved!)...everything else comes in under 8...
 
I have no idea of what my guitars weigh but can really feel the difference between the two Danelectros and the Telecaster. The Tele feels like it weighs a ton. (Same for my banjo.)
 
I once owned a 13+ lbs. northern ash bodied cheapo Jazzmaster copy. It sounded pretty great, but it would make my leg go numb resting there while I sat and played/recorded. And fuck putting it on a strap and playing out with it.

I sold it to a hippie in a parking lot somewhere in Kansas.

All the stuff I own now seems comfortable enough. I reckon they’re all in the 7 to 8 pound range. Duo Sonic might a be a tad lighter.

I have a Duo Sonic at my sister-in-law's place in Madison (so I have an electric available when I'm in the midwest), and I would agree that it can't be more than 7 lbs
 
I haven’t weighed my LP Classic, yet, but it certainly is the heaviest guitar I have ever owned. Gotta be close to 10 pounds, if not several ounces over.
 
My #1 "mahogany" strat weighs about 11 I think. It's the reason I have a love/hate relationship with it. Sounds great but sits there like a log when you're really getting into it. Like a really fast car with no handling abilities. Like when you have to drive laguna seca with a stock Nascar in Gran Turismo 5 before you've learned how to tune it. I'll come back with some weights, this is interesting.
 
Okay, scratch that on my strat. I could swear that I weighed it way back and it weighed 11, of course maybe my math was way off on the conversion or the wood dried over the last ten years. I don't count that out considering how that thing originally came to me. I routed it for two humbuckers since then too. Who knows for sure...

  • Kit LP Jr - 4.41!!!
Bass guitars:

  • Marcus Miller 5 string fretless - 10.14
  • HarleyB 75 Jazz Bass Ash - 9.25
  • HarleyB Beatles Bass fretless - didn't even bother, weighs like less than the LP Jr above.
 
I just did the weigh myself, weigh myself holding the guitar.

McFeely - 8.4 lbs
7/8 Stra - 6.8 lbs
7/8 Tele - 6.8 lbs
Mustang Bass - 7.8 lbs
