Never owned one but I got to borrow my nephews 75 Tele for a few weeks. Thought it was ok but nothing I would care to own.
 
I love my tele, but never noticed any super powers. I always thought that was all bullshit made up by folks who needed some way to insist their guitar was better than mine. :shrug:

Yeah, like this. I enjoy mine, and it has its own thing going, but so do most guitars.
 
My Tele is the only guitar I've played all week and I wrote three new riffs with it. It IS magic I tell ya! :embarrassed:

I think there is a grain of truth to the saying. It's hard to explain, but tele pickups seem to have lower output, grit, and compression than most of the others that I play. Maybe just the bridge. So it's harder to just lay back and rest on those simple tasty licks that might work on my LP. I feel like I have to really manhandle my teles to get the sounds I want, and that takes a lot more planning. It certainly has nothing to do with one model being superior to another, you just have to approach them differently. YMMV
 
I'm self taught and my technique is not good. I really think my bad habits are more apparent when I play my Tele.
