Phones are useful, helpful, they are all kinds of things...but they are also socially crippling, activity crippling and engagement crippling.

These things are massive negatives which in many cases far outweigh the positives.

I will say, at most of the smaller venues I've been at, this is not tolerated anymore.

I'll admit to using my phone to take a few snapshots during a show. I never understood the video thing though. I'm sure the sound quality sucks, and I agree that it is unlikely that anyone ever goes back and watches those videos. Just enjoy the moment.

...and same thing goes for fireworks shows. Why do folks record those when they could just be enjoying the show? :shrug:
