Switching from Finale to Sibelius.

I needed to replace my copy of Finale (my last "Paid for" version is from 2002 and not able to upgrade cheaply) and their "not $600" versions can't do any of the stuff I need for my online lessons so I'm trying Sibelius First.

Seems like its more intuitive but I still need to learn a whole new program and I really don't have the patience for it.

Music notation software. Overpriced bullshit I need to spam the world and elsewhere with my crappy lessons.
 
Sibelius USED to offer a competitive upgrade. Might save some bucks that way. :shrug:

I'd prefer to go that direction myself... I doubt my 2006 Finale is compatible with Snow Leopard. :shrug:

I don't think anyone cares about my 8 year old copy of Finale. I think Sibelius First is going to work for me. I have the 30 day trial and its on $129 for the download.

You just have to send them a photocopy of your manual IIRC and something else.. receipt?
 
I'd still be running Cakewalk 97 if I didn't "work around the law a little bit" when getting new software.

I still have my CD for Pro Audio 9 and Sonar 2.0 XL at home. Dad still has his DOS Cakewalk somewhere. :lol:

Just thought I'd throw it out... a little cheaper than the $129. Lemme know how it is... I might have to buy.
 
Sometimes I wonder if they even realize who they're selling their programs to. Musicians on the whole can't afford $600 for a functional notation program. :facepalm:

For most applications Finale now has a bunch of smaller packages that would cover much of what a working musician would need. The thing that is killing me is that you can't customize chord diagrams unless you have the $600 version. I think Sibelius will probably work better for me in the long run (it should also integrate with my ProTools setup on the same computer pretty nice since they are both from Avid now) but the idea of learning a new program annoys the hell out of me.

It would probably be a real pain to have everything in separate programs, but this is a free tablature editor that I've used for several years now.

I recently switched over to Tux Guitar, which is great too. I have no idea if there is Mac support for either though.

EDIT: Looks like there is for Tux, but not for powertab. Both are excellent, at least for my limited uses.
 
I fucking HATE Tux. I haven't used the newest version, but it always displayed like shit and was a lot harder to work with than Guitar Pro. Yeah, you've gotta pay for Guitar Pro, but it's money well-spent IMO.

I've only seen the newer version, but it doesn't really seem that different from guitar pro, at least the little of GP that I've seen. I do still prefer powertabs when I'm tabbing stuff, though.
