does anybody remember a steak seasoning called "charcoal grill seasoning" or something like that.
i think it was made by McCormick and we used it on steaks done in the broiler so they tasted like real charcoal grilled flavor. would have been in the 70's.

i can't find it anymore and i can't find any info on who made it and why it doesn't exist anymore.
i'm guessing there is some carcinogenic issues with it.

but damn, did it make the steaks taste good.

i've seen other "charcoal seasoning", but they have all kinds of other stuff in them and i don't remember the seasoning in the 70's having anything but charcoal and salt.

anyone??

When I was growing up in Baltimore, the McCormick spice plant was on the bus route that I often took, and you could smell the spices as you rode by. I loved when they were doing cinnamon. After the Inner Harbor area was gentrified, they tour down the McCormicks building and put up a parking lot. Oh, bop, bop, bop

I use Nolan Ryan Signature Steak Seasoning
shopping

And Dale's Steak Seasoning liquid, plus a little Liquid Smoke.

I have come to like a mix of paprika, garlic powder, and pepper on just about anything. It kicks ass on baked chicken breasts. While I don’t have high BP, I just don’t add extra salt to anything.

how does one achieve fake smoke flavor? What are they scraping from where?

I used to marinate chicken wings in a mixture of Dale's and light beer and then grill them. Toss in sauce, dust, or eat em straight up. They were GOOOD.
Need to do that again soon.

We just had a big grill party and used the oven to finish and keep everything hot until serving. A bunch of fat dropped down to the bottom of the oven and smoked out our apartment the next day. I think the shit I scraped off of the grease matt is what they grind up. Like a true guitarist I use alnico v magnets to hold down our Teflon matt btw. Creamy, Tasty licks and all.

Usually it's liquid smoke which is just the collected condensate from actual hardwood smoke.
