Socialists: "Obama's no socialsit"

if your party has been taken over by liberals who you disagree with, then you have to re-brand yourself to avoid confusion.

i currently have no party affiliation.

I'd rather represent what I feel is the more reasonable stance than jump ship. Anyway, there's no decent ship to jump to. :-\

Both parties are too disconnected from the people.

while i didn't like the source, back in '00 there was an email from Michael Moore that circulated, trying to get people to vote for Nader. the email basically said that if every disconnected/disenfranchised voter in this country voted for Nader, he'd win by a landslide. now while i didn't like Moore or Nader, the email was 100% correct. both parties have become far too overreaching and anybody who agrees with every position of that party is smoking something.

IMO, party affiliation is a sham. unless you have political ambitions, there is no sense in keeping any ties to either party, except to vote in the primaries. you can change it every year if you like. if you need a ship to jump to, you're doing it wrong.

You are absolutely right. I would entertain the idea of repudiating both parties, given how woefully incompetent both of them have become.

Thanks for that post, H. You got me thinking. BTW, I have voted all over the place too. I would never vote party line. Like you said, either those voters are smoking something, they're lazy, or arrogant.

I can't help but suspect that any similarly respected news source would be dismissed as a "Dem rag".

Never mind that the Post has garnered a dozen Pulitzers in the past 5 years...

I've seen the Post putting up articles from both sides of the political spectrum lately. Maybe D-man simply doesn't read it much because he thinks it's a "dem rag."

Of course, to some people all news except fox news is the liberal media (not that I deny the existence of a liberal media, but fox news is worse than any of them when it comes to actual journalism).

D-man is a democrat in the same way that I'm a fundamentalist christian.

I was born into a fundamentalist christian family, and D was born into a democrat family. I'm now an atheist, and D-man is now a right wingnut. I don't still call myself a christian though.

Ding ding ding ding....

we have a winner!

I think you have to be a group think type person to fall into the democrat or republican camps. You have to be willing to align all of your beliefs and convictions with this week's party talking points. I don't see how people manage it.

I range from far right to far left. I'm issue specific, rog3r, we've been over this. Yeah, I adopted the family's party, but trust me when I say I'm the black sheep. I'm seen as the liberal asshole at the dinner table.

Why you gotta call me a nut, yo. :poke:

Do you gig tonight, r0g?

what really amazes me is how little opposition parties put into local elections. my congressional district is represented by Carolyn Maloney, a democrat. i searched for information on anybody running against her, and could only come up with a name for the republican candidate. no platform, no picture, no contact info, no nothing. just a name. these parties are not interested in anything but keeping power. if somebody decides to step down, then they'll get into it. but until that time comes, they're perfectly happy hurling insults back and forth while collecting paychecks and lobbying favors.

now i did vote for Obama. he was clearly the better candidate of the two. while he was not the ideal candidate, i doubt i will ever get the chance to vote for anybody who fits that description.

I've never seen you express a liberal view other than on abortion or pot.

You respond to threads like this in a way that's very predictable for someone who's leaning is far to the right, and you do so consistently. Your positions over the years that I've known you are overwhelmingly consistent with the likes of Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh.

No insult intended, just calling it like I see it. If you think you're a democrat you're incredibly mistaken.

And to be fair, being pro-mj legalization isn't necessarily a conservative position, though it's a socially conservative idea in theory, you'll find one of the chief architects of the "war on drugs" was our vice president, Democrat, Joe Biden.

I'd prefer to think I'm a democrat who stood his ground while the party went South.

As far as the two guys you mentioned go I think Rush is too extreme and Hannity makes a little more sense.

Glenn Beck is my guy. Of all show hosts out there, he makes the most sense to me.

If you think Hannity makes any sense at all, you're surely on the right.

He worships at the altar of Rush.

Beck is slightly less right than Rush and Hannity, and has a few slightly more correct ideas, like the fact that he could bring himself to criticize Bush a few times, which you'll NEVER hear from Rush or Hannity. He's still a right winger though.

Seriously, if I walked around calling myself a Pentacostal, I'd be doing no different than you calling yourself a democrat.

if by drinking the kool-aid, you mean that i read both platforms and went with the one that contradicted itself less than the other, then yes.

I think you'd have to ask D-man, but I think he means the kool aid was drugged to make you vote for the wrong guy.

I drank it too, and I was definitely feeling like Obama was the best choice, hands down....even if there were things about him that didn't jive perfectly with me. There was just no choice in this election based on my own rationality, it was a clear and easy choice, which may of course have been impaired by "the kool-aid."
