Signed up a little while ago, rather than just for the HC 2.0 migration, but haven't posted much so far. :shrug:

DeadNight Warrior at HC, DNW most other places. Was more often in Amps (as one of the less retarded members) than GJ over the last few years, but before that was more of a GJ'er. Signed up here coz I suck, and the Weinmeister's lessons are going to make me a musical genius, so I figured I'd join the forum too.


I attend the Church of Cliff Chase, and play pointy superstrats with too many strings. :embarrassed:

The Line 6 thing might be a good starting point although I've never used it. Just about any cheap interface will get you started with Garage Band if you have it on your Mac.

This is the entry level ProTools setup that we suggest our recording program students get....it's actually $99.00. We use ProTools here and thats what I record on. It might be a bit more than "entry level" for you in terms of ease of learning the basics if you are doing it on your own.

My friend has an iMac, his copy of Pro Tools is buggier and slower on the mac side than when he ran it on windows :eek:

Until Snow Leopard came out we didn't have any problems with ProTools...Digidesign was a little slow getting the update out for that it seemed....

Hey there!

It's slower - they are working on cutting down database queries in each update. There are a ton of issues with the CMS (or frontpage section of the site). The stylevars (or the things that allow you to modify the look of the site) are fairly kludged up. Lots of little bugs. Their support forum kind of resembles HC2.0 at the moment :embarrassed:

As for effects i like to keep it simple. A few distortions and a wah are all i need. (Read: can afford)

I'm Bryan and I'm 45 and have played guitar for 33 years and still love it more and more all the time.
I also like to ski. I try to go 3 times a week in the winter. I also dig motorsports especially NASCAR.
I like sim racing. I spend way too much time in GTR2 and rFactor.

I need to string up some wire at the new place, and we can try that... And, no need to disagree here regarding the use of 73 or 73s... I have been laughing for years at guys on phone that say 73s and 88s, or refer to their QTH, or say QSL, etc... I tend to say 10-4 to get everyone bent out of shape... But, generally, I use normal english...

I actually got really into CW when I first got into the hobby, and got up to around 35 wpm... Funny, I haven't operated that mode for ages... I guess my hamming techniques don't differ all that much from my internet forum techniques! Too much time in the "war band", 7255, 3810, and others... Every once in a while I still check in and get things stirred up...

I also spent some time on the infamous "435", the 147.435 repeater in Los Angeles, very well known for it's antics... Not surprising I would hang out there when I am down there...:)

OK, enough boring the forum with this geekyness...

with the GearBox software; I also was able during a pre-holiday giveaway to download PodFarm for free.

Cool! :thu: Yeah, I really only use CW for contesting nowadays, although I can still do 30 plus wpm. If I want to shoot the breeze, I prefer to use phone. One of the most interesting QSOs I had, was with a guy on 160m, on Xmas Eve in the 90s. He used to be a B-29 bomber pilot during WW2. He had some interesting storys to tell, that would have taken forever and a day, to tell on CW.

I also still do some VHF/UHF weak signal stuff (although due to a money crunch, I no longer have my 432 & 1296 gear). I contest. I've been doing QRP, ever since I was a General in college, in the 80s, and belonged to the Univ. of Wisconsin ham radio club, and over the past few years, I've gotten into restoring (when the time, and the gumption is there) vintage AM & SSB gear. I'm working on an old National NCX-3 at the present time, and still have a good feeling about bringing back my Johnson Viking II, from the dead, decades after it had last been used! I live in an apartment on the 2nd floor, and I operate stealth (my landlady knows about my radio activities). My antenna - I load up the 130 foot long rain gutter, with an L-match, and use a tuned counterpoise.

But, I will admit, that when I get heavy into guitar and gigging, my radio activites have taken a backseat. Like you said, 'nuff said about the subject, on this forum.
