So this week I have been....

giving myself a crash course on Adobe InDesign and Illustrator while completely having to rework my new book. And watching children who have been off school due to furlough.

So if I'm grouchy I'll apologize in advance.

Trivia; Did you know 'Furlough' is a bastardization of the Dutch word 'Verlof' which means 'Leave of Absence'?

well...good luck with that...
Actually the first one should be done by next week, and the second one should be done by the end of the year. They are a pair of blues guitar books that are based around the new album. The second two are a reworking of Foundations for Guitar so that won't be a total stretch either.

Nice one, Mark. Bit of a steep learning curve there. I'm impressed.
Thanks :)

I've done this before in a slightly more primitive manner in 2006 using Microsoft publisher and Finale for my last book. This is much better and having Youtube tutorials is huge.

Yup, InDesign is great software. Once you get good at it, it's just a pleasure to use. But of course there's that pesky initial learning curve where you want to put your fist through the monitor every five or ten minutes. Before most companies I write manuals for moved over to InDesign, "Framemaker" was the software of choice. Now that's a nasty piece of software to have to learn by yourself.

And of course Illustrator is the dog's bollox.

I find the most tricky part of InDesign is setting up the initial document with grids and the right measurements. After that, it's a doddle.

Illustrator is just great fun to work with, unless you manually have to trace a very complex image/drawing

Its not been too bad other that at one point last night I had spent about half an hour building a page and I must of fat fingered a combination of keys to put it in some sort of mode that wouldn't allow me to save the document. I ended up having to restart it and start all over again on that one page which resulted in my :Rage:

Ouch that sucks, I hate it when that kind of stuff happens. It usually goes much quicker on the second go-round though, for whatever that's worth. I like the K9 tech support.

Yeah...I did end up rethinking a bit of it so maybe it was for the best. Didn't make it any more fun when I saw that newly blank page though.

My money is on it waiting for you to accept something.

Oh, and, get in the habit of clicking Save after pretty much every move.
