So the important part is that no one was hurt, but I'm still upset

Was taking my kids to "skate night" at the local roller rink - their elementary school does them every once in a while. I'm turning left onto the road where the rink is....there are 2 lanes coming the other direction, and heavy traffic. The light turns red, and cars in both lanes stop, and wave me through. I go, and a guy comes flying up the shoulder from the back of the line. I see him in time to stop and lay on the horn...he tries to swerve, but never hits his brakes and rams my front end doing probably 55 in a 35. I make sure my wife and kids are OK....and call the cops. We pull off to she side, and my door won't open and something's dragging on the tire, so clearly my car ain't driveable. I was surprised my door wouldn't open, because he hit the passenger side - so he hit me hard enough to bend my entire front end around and in front of the driver's door.

Cop comes, takes our statements, and doesn't cite either one of us, which irritates me to no end - the cop even said the other guy shouldn't have been driving on the shoulder, and that there's a sign there that says not to, then claims we're both at fault.

I'm pissed.

In the meantime, I'm upside down in the loan on that car, and I have gap insurance - so please think happy thoughts that the insurance company will total my car. I like the car, but that'd be doing me a favor.

No witnesses stayed, which really sucks....didn't think of my camera phone for photos, have been kicking myself about that for the last 2 hours....but yeah, I'm sure we're all OK. My neck's a tiny bit stiff, but OK.

Man go get checked. You can think you're alright after something like that because the adrenaline is pumping, especially with your wife and kids in the car you'd be more likely to have it really kicking, but when it wears off you may be in more pain.

EVERYONE should get checked.

I'll see how we're doing tomorrow, maybe we'll go to the doc-in-the-box....

Am having an overly large glass of bourbon and calming down at the moment.

Well, I'm glad you guys are all alright. As far as the car, it doesnt take much to get something totaled anymore. Especially if it's as bad as it seems from your post.

I'm thinking happy totaled thoughts - I could easily get a nicer car for a lower payment. I took a bath on my trade-in on this car, but it wasn't safe and had to be gotten rid of - it randomly stalled at high speeds, and they couldn't figure what was wrong with it - it was Mrs Aahzz's minivan, and I didn't feel safe with her and the kids in it, so I knowingly took the hit to get a safe vehicle.

Getting this one totaled would be a blessing.

Really sorry to hear that boss. Glad to hear you are all ok but definitely keep an eye on things. I sincerely hope all goes well with the car. It sucks to get your car jacked up like that.

Fingers crossed for you and yours.

Glad you guys are all OK...sounds like he bent the frame...

Yeah, I'm figuring the frame is bent...an hoping that's what gets it totaled.

I keep thinking about the fact that if I didn't have good reflexes, and hadn't stopped, he'd have slammed directly into my wife or daughter.

Scary shit.

How are the kids reacting? They shaken up? Sometimes things like this can freak them out for a good long time.

Oh man, you aint kiddin. Puts reality a little too close to home. We like to go through life thinking that our wives and kids are safe from all the horrible things that happen, and when something does, or comes that close, it's FREAKY. Messes with your insides. At least mine.

The kids are doing OK. They were freaked at first, then they wanted to meet the cop, which they did, and he was very nice. We were within walking distance of the roller rink, so Dee took them to skate night while I waited for the tow truck, and then my mom cme and picked us up. The kids still had a blast at skate night, and are now happily tucked in their beds. We'll talk it through over the next few days and make sure they're OK.

Luckily my parents still have 2 cars, and my father can't drive any more, so I'm driving the pimpmobile - '01 caddy Sedan Deville - until this gets resolved.

Messes with my insides but good.

When Rachel had her incident with her seizure, after we got out of the hospital and brought her home and knew everything was 100 percent fine, my wife took her to see some friends. I stayed home and cried like a baby. I know I tell that story a lot but it's shocking how much it can get to you even when it turns out OK.

Seizures are frightening. I'm not sure if I've mentioned it or not, but my daughter's epileptic - the first seizure, at 2 a.m. when she was 14 months old, is still the most frightened and shaken I have ever been in my life. I hope to never be that frightened again. I sobbed for quite some time.

They're not frequent but they still freak me out - mainly when she's sick. Just had one this past Saturday.

No, you've never mentioned it. Do they expect it to last into adulthood? I know sometimes seizure disorders can go away as children age.

They expected her to grow out of it at 5...she's 7 and a half. Now they've said 8...and she did go 8 months without one...but I can only play it by ear and see what happens.

Mrs Aahzz is epileptic, so it's not totally unexpected.

Man, that sucks. Does MrsAahhaz have it to the point that it limits her? My mother-in-law has grand mals and I know that can be rough.

Mrs A is on meds that control it, so she's OK. Both she and Dana have grand mals when they have them.

We'd put Dana on meds, but right now the side effects of the meds are worse than the seizures, since she has them infrequently.
