So I'm not very in love with the Epi Valve Jr I just got.

I think some of it is that I'm not much of a Class A amp sort of guy but also it doesn't have very much clean headroom and anything that I use around here in the studio needs to have some...I've tried it with a few speaker cabs but I'm slowly coming to the realization that it's probably not my bag...we'll see.

Very much? I'm suprised it has any.

I own two 5 watt blackhearts and I figured that the epi would be along those lines... This is the ultimate bedroom amp if you just like to rock out. It has all if the possible mods and el borrachito likes his for recording but I'm just not digging it for everyday use around here..,

If you live for hard rock, get an amp made to rock hard. Epi amps are designed and built specifically for hard rock guitar players. They feature design and construction, electronics and hardware for rock music. Some other amps try to work for ALL kinds of music (country AND rock). That's impossible! Epi does one thing and it does it well.

:embarrassed:

I gotta agree with HIAR. I know that the stock was designed to be used that way. With the Bitmo mods that were added, those too are overdrive type mods - which means no headroom.

No, it wasn't Splawny. Some guy posted the ad copy from the resurrected Kramer line every time he posted in a thread.

Yeah, in both GJ and guitar...I thought it later turned out it was one of splawndart's alts? Either way, it started out annoying then just became static that you filtered out each time it was posted.

Kimpossible?

Hey Mark, didn't you say you had one of those small VHT's coming/someone was bring one over/whatever?

I wanna see what you think of it. I'm still kinda gassing for a small Blackstar atm, but if the VHT can bring teh rawk....

We were discussing them but I don't know anyone who has one at the moment....

i could be inpossible. that's "more than possible".

Dont do that. He'll be impossible.

It depends on the situation. But that is for another discussion and another time. As for what HIAR stated, a majority of the people who mod their amps are usually trying to create a tone monster that is reminiscent of their favorite rock amp at an affordable price. Notice the term "ROCK". It is rare when people are looking for more headroom hence the many SF references for clean tones.

The MM mod that I am doing with mine captures the rock sound at max volume but cleans up nicely when the guitars volume is reduced. Much like what Mark experienced with my Weber build. It will be more Marshall voiced as I am rebuilding the whole board too with point to point components but that is my preference.

Those Bitmo mods are purely rock based to drive the amp the way a rocker wants at low volume levels.
