So I just picked this fine piece of gear up yesterday...

1967 Bassman head.  Silverface modded to Blackface specs (AA165 circuit).  Haven't played through it yet, no speaker cable at the house, but it looks to be in good shape.  I'll post a review once I play around with it for a while.  AOK

I predict very large clean tones in your immediate future. O0

This thing does clean? I bought it for a Metallica cover band.

:embarrassed:

Actually, it'll likely do that too with the right pedal. Those really are great sounding amps that take pedals very well.

Cost $450, came with a custom cover. The previous owner spent $375 reverting it from the Marshall mod to the Blackface specs, he gave me the invoice and I was like messedup0

I've often wondered why the Bassman heads didn't get aboard the super-expensive vintage bandwagon. Every one I've heard has sounded great, and I don't think I've ever seen a Bassman head cost more than about $600.

Sheesh.  Gear is so damned expensive up here.  Even the used stuff is ridiculous.

Congrats on the find.

I've never had a chance to fiddle with one. Do they actually sound good with both guitar and bass? If so, that's fantastic!

what is this Marshall mod you speak of?

Something about changing the Bass channel to sound more like a Marshall, I forget what all it entails but I've read about it on the Fender forums before. Apparently it changes some of the guts of the amp and is pricey to reverse. idn_smilie

ok, i know what you're talking about. i've seen it before, but i don't know the internals either.

honestly, it was probably worth just as much with the mod as without it. what i'm interested in is if the mod changes the voicing of the guitar channel. if not, then why bother reversing it? just get an a/b box and off you go!

Nice buy!!

I have come close to getting a Bassman Head several times because they are so reasonably priced. Looking forward to the tone report!! AOK
