So I had my first "we have too much technology" moment with our new Audi....

Some of you may remember that I bought my wife a new Audi Q5 for Christmas... and there's definitely a small learning curve on how to best "log in" to the car so it finds all of your seat settings and connects to wireless Apple Carplay. We've learned that the MMI interface is a bit slow to log out of one user... then log into a different user... then connect... so we now just leave it set to "Kelly" all the time and I just press button #2 on the door to change my seat and mirrors.

Flash forward to Saturday night... I drive out and pick up our carry-out dinner, hop back in the car, press "Kelly"... and am shocked to notice that all the menus are suddenly in German.

The Carplay itself is still in English because the phone is in English... but when I touch the settings icon... all the freaking menus are in GERMAN. It's one thing when they're in English and you switch... but once it was in German, I couldn't READ the menus to switch back to English.

So I figure "I'll follow the prompts and the icons and then look for 'Angitch' or whatever...." and I can't find it. I read through the Owners Manual and once I press the Settings button, Language and Keyboard are supposed to be the third icon in... but IT'S MISSING!!!! :gah:

We're watching TV and I'm googling.... I finally find that if you press TWO fingers in the upper right corner and hold them there for 10 seconds, it will go into "Engineering Mode"

I do this and it's a red and black text menu with 4 or 5 options... but the last one is "Restart System". I try this and it worked!

I should have been happy but I went back in the house grumbling.... "I just had to Ctrl-Alt-Delete the goddamned CAR!!! "

At least it didn't tell you it was incompatible and needed a Driver upgrade! :bigg:

At this point, I’ve probably owned more German cars than American…. Have a way to go to pass Japanese cars, but I’m up for the challenge. :helper:

As long as they don’t have to stick a USB cable into my ass for the upgrade. :embarrassed:

My 2017 Honda Pilot logs all the settings into the wireless key fob so if you get in and start it with fob 1 it remembers everything set up while on that fob. Pretty cool. Although it doesn't do the automatic seats but it does everything else like last used audio, temp control, etc.

One interesting thing between the Audi and our Lexus.... In the Lexus, you press 1 for my wife's settings, or 2 for mine and it moves the seats and mirrors... I have longer arms and legs and like the seat lower and tipped back a bit more. When Highway driving, I like it stretched even further back.... so I set button #3 for that.

At first I thought it was annoying in the Audi that you have to press and HOLD to change 1 or 2 ... but then I realized I could set my 2 setting to my Highway settings.... and holding 1 or 2 can move me through the RANGE and it automatically compensates the mirrors as well. :baimun:

I have a friend who got locked in his Tesla.

Got in, closed the door, and with it's last gasp of battery life, the doors locked.

They were ready to smash a window with a sledge hammer, when a YouTube search revealed a secret manual door release located under the armrest.

Fortunately nothing that crazy has happened with our Subaru. We had a big tech leap since our other cars are both 90's with no technology to worry about. We still are finding out things with the Subaru that are WTF is that?

I think I know about half of what my Subaru does.

Just bought a new Toyota Highlander hybrid. My car keeps texting me stuff -- after I get out of it, mind you -- about it being unlocked, the window's open, why don't I call my mother more than I do, etc....well, maybe not the last one...

The weird one I get, usually after resolving a "doors unlocked" alert, is "please check the back seat in you RAV 4." I keep expecting to find a mugger back there or something, but nothing.
