Shopping for a tattoo artist is...

Seems like finding the right artist would be key. The wrong guy could be disastrous. If the tat sucks do you still have to pay?

Depends on the shop

Most artists want you to be happy with the work & know what their reputation is worth so they will do what ever they can to make you a satisfied customer. But there are plenty of shops where the goal is to just move people/$ through and they take the attitude that:
1) you saw the artist's portfolio before hand
2) you saw the stencil on you before they laid ink and said Go....so..
3) pay up

But from what I've seen, most people don't get into it when they get tattooed but a couple weeks later once it heals up and they realize that the piece just isn't very good. At that point, some go back...some do nothing for years about and some go to another shop looking for a touch-up or cover-up.

I could post a diagram on how to build your own tattoo machine.
pretty easy.
just let whoever's had the most bourbon do the inking.

Thanks guys...I want it on my right arm...then I will have the rest of my upper arm sleeved in a "nebula" around the tree using the horse head nebula as an idea to get it started.

That tree is cool... I had an old girlfriend who could draw trees and dragons really well and intricate... I always liked the trees a lot...

Decent looking portfolio. Going for color, or black and gray?

Great question. I DO want color...but not a lot...just to highlight particular aspects of the sleeve...the leaves on the tree...colors in the nebula parts...

I am interested to see what he has to suggest as well...I cant draw a straight line with a pencil, so I am counting on him to help me out.

Appointments sent. I am so impressed with people who have artistic ability. He sketched the tree in like 10 seconds...I could have had a lifetime and not done it. And he's putting my kids names in the roots...and he dug the nebula idea.

I'm stoked. I start in June...I guess I wil post pics as I go.

Mrs. P's Chinese name is Phoenix. I have a phoenix tattooed on my arm. I figure if she leaves me, I can say it's an eagle. :embarrassed:
