rockin'n'rollin'on rubber... runnin'wit reitze

strings to springs, strokes to spokes, it's still life on the road even if you're just pedaling yourself.

I'm going to resurrect an old country tradition, the answer song.
You know, a male singer has a man's version or a woman answers a man's song.
Like Dotty Hollas' scream out "Did He Leave?" and The Morbro Mann doin' "As Fast as I can Zip Up".

reitze's been getting it going with his guitars and bicycles, even if you can't call them that,
so I'm answering here with a couple photos of my bike and how I reinvented it.

bike 026.jpg

You can see the welding I got done to stiffen the frame and help raise the seat,
and the carrier I built using lexan that's the framework for the seat.
My chiropractor said I shouldn't be riding a bicycle,
so I built one with the same advantages as one of his exercise machines.
I can ride bending my back either way, and rest my arms on the handlebars.
When I sit upright behind the axle, it can feel like a unicycle trying to squirt ahead.
It's so nice being able to stretch my legs out and just get my toe-tips on the pedals.
Sometimes it feels like I'm just waving my feet in front of me.

bike 028.jpg

My bike might look beaten, over ten years old, and I didn't call it "Trial by Tire" for nothing,
but I want reitze to look at my seat. See the piece of 1/4" lexan acting like a spacer?
Can you see the front nut with the white nylon washer, and the slot in the spacer?
The top nut only goes down and back up, all designed to flex with the lexan.
The slot allows forward and backward travel, allowing the lexan to move as a shock absorber.
The blue scarf is wrapped around a three-piece, layered, two types of foam seat I made,
and moves side to side, combining with the lexan to flex and move in any direction,
while diffusing as much body weight as possible.
The Ab-Dominizer foam around the back of the seat is a soft grip when walking.
The carrier holds a big carton of juice standing up at the back.

My best ideas come to me when I'm riding on a long distance bike-hike, or taking a break during one.
Who else gets out a soldering gun and welding torch, tuners and spoke turners, shocks and shocks,
rockin'n'rollin' on the road?

It would really be cool to have a welding torch and a soldering gun on a bike. That would make a difference. I mean if someone´s annoying you in the traffic, let´s say a car driver, you can just follow him in silence to his next stop, say a burger place or a petrol station, and when he leave his car just for some minute you can cut it in pieces with the welding torch. Or if someone on the road have a problem with his guitar, say he need some assistance with some pickup installations, you can just bring up the soldering gun and be a helper at the next stop and then have a beer with the guy and make friends. Or if it´s a girl it would be even better, if she has, say, some problem with the clips in her bra: Ha! you can say, I got what it takes, and just use the soldering gun to her great admiration.

Wilmer X... yes... I can see you happening, but you're not catching the reitze way.
However, bra strap elasticity could be a good exerciser for your wrist tendonitis.

If you were reitze you wouldn't be thinking in heavy metal terms, soldering guns and torches,
you'd be pulling up to your adversaries side window, playing and singing a song to work your magic.
If you were entering the parking lot of a sample and scan, hip-hop business, a dangerous locale,
reitze would be aiming a drive-by song with loud shots of chords as he whizzed through.

But this is all we just know and have been shown. There has to be more, and more dangerous.
If reitze started a band of road riders, traveling across the land as a self-amplified band,
pulling into parking lots, getting into traffic jams, surrounding celebrity tour buses,
hanging out in the middle of The Holland Tunnel, being everywhere but square,
he could turn a generation against recorded and interior music,
and when everything is self-amplified it will be reitzes not watts. That's got to stop.

reitze! Are you flexin'on lexan? Fretting fingers want to know.

That's rather surprising how much its shaped like the toring bike I have. I put a bananna seat and sissy bar on it plus I welded an extension on the right handle bar. Looks like it gets you there. Now if that speaker were with you ... you'd need an electrified trailer like on of those kiddi-trailers.

edit: hmmm bikes are moving in technology again thanks to the depressed economy and more interest in bicycles. I see the sissy bar and seat is now available on ebay for $50.

This is the lounge right? you going for the ride n play?

Another Day I Can Ride And Play

Hi John,
After your original comments about ride-n-play I got thinking it was more valuable than I had realized. So when I went to the studio-recital/open-mic today I rode with the guitar. Of coarse they all came out to see it and someone shot a video. Here ya go:

I always thought those splat-ball guns would work well. But when I lived near DC it seemed like a lot of angry drivers would through coffee at eachother.

Reading your original post more closely your seat becomes even more impressive. You'd never be satisfied with a new one unless you intended to cannibalize it.

My chopper of similar size/shape with the banana seat wouldn't be any where near as comfortable. I ride it differently too... I lean back on the sissy bar and just use my right hand. My left I can hold a dog-leash. I also like my feet slightly in front of me rather than straight down. My later choppers took it further and used mountain-bike suspensions but those add weight.

Are you commuting with yours? Mine were never intended to go more than a few miles at a very slow pace with a dog.
Edit: the dog did most of the work too (before electrification).
Are you going for a set run or exercise sake?

Raining like crazy here today. No ride-n-play-today... hmmm maybe a song to go with the ride. I need to mount the camera somehow to capture the people pointing at me. It's funny sometimes. Especially kids when I bring the dog.

reitze! Don't try to torment me by asking if my ride is a set list or just for exercise.
I still feel a little silly for getting into drumming on a coffee table so much last night.

I'm glad you're seeing the potential for more ride'n'play. You got this video shot,
and I'm sure if they had a grill out there you would have caught some free burgers.
Am I the first to type these words? "Your guitar looks good slung over the handlebars".

I paid $12 over ten years ago for the banana seat, the only one, I just ordered it again, $12.
What you're looking at is more black sign vinyl touchups than original, but I don't sit there.

The top of the lexan (towards the rear) bends down like it's soft, flexing when I'm behind the axle,
and the center part flexes down in an arch, a nice stiffness being 1/4" and being genuine GM Lexan.
The hardness (callous?) I felt at my rear and the chafing I could get, depending on the pants,
started disappearing after I used this seat and my rear end has only rounded out,
from moving around and having such a definite leaning forward and leaning backward capacity.
I can lay back enough to be resting on the small of my back, even if it doesn't look like a recliner.
I know what you mean by stretching your legs out in front of you. I can pedal with my toe tips.
It's so nice to lay back and stretch the legs out like that, feeling like I'm waving my feet in front of me.
I'm not a hard-core athlete. I travel for two days and over a hundred miles, shore-walking over twenty,
because I can sit and pedal in so many positions.

Life is life, people are people, and I think you love your dog and would be a loving master.
But if you drove your bike around here with a dog on a leash someone would phone.
I'm going to make a scan so you can see how serious dog-walking in public is.
It's wrinkled 'cause I found it and jammed it in my pocket.
If you're ever around here don't ask for a doggy bag because people will give you this.
But then, some people say there's nothing like waking up to the smell of fermenting dog shit.

Can you see the four part instructions, and the toll-free and online address for help?
They don't show you how to hold your nose.
The security symbol and explanation at the bottom is for children putting the bag over their heads.
As if.

The dog with a bike has caught on here in the US thanks to that guy on TV. I connected one of my videos to his dog-guitar episode... just checked for it and I don't see his so IDK if it was this one but it made me lauch and when it stared my dog came running into the LR from the BR to enjoy me wistling along.

Oh and I keep shit-bags in those saddle bags of my electric bike. When I take him to doggie park its about 6 miles each way and 2 miles of that is the park along the lake - very public. Funny though absolutely 0 children riding bicycles there because someone passed a helmet law in the village and instead they just go over by the track where they've built a better set of jumps and all that too...

Like a long ride in the car... nice to have a Power Guitar to ride and play. In a car though it could be done with a nice tube-amp powered fromt he car... hommm I think it was Burris made a car-amp for Vox back in the 60s (the whole car was an amp).
