RIP Mr Jones.
Lately I've been re-watching his "Ripping Yarns" series with Michael Palin. Sustained absurdity focused around pre-war British boys' literature, if you're into that kind of stuff.
And I liked his book Chaucer's Knight, which puts forth the the claim that the pure and noble Knight of the Canterbury Tales was an ironic caricature by Chaucer of the sort of unscrupulous mercenary knights of that era. It was the latest hot take when I was studying Chaucer back in the 80's and pretty much required reading for any new scholarship, though I didn't totally buy Jones' thesis then (and less so now).
