Dig it! Reorganizing my sounds for my live rig...

The first thing that I did was after shooting a bunch of combinations out I'm going to be starting 2022 with the Deluxe Reverb and Suhr extension cab for my main cover band live rig.

My sounds have been a bit of a mess over the last year or so since I haven't been playing many shows and I've needed to change some stuff up so I've been reworking my sounds in a way that I think will be more practical regardless of which band I'm playing in. I actually needed to set up a spreadsheet to keep my thoughts straight:

Tomorrow I think I'm going to "dry run" a set or two of tunes from each band and see how it feels. The idea is to have sounds that I use most often for each type of set handy or at least in an adjoining bank on the ES-8 and to also refine some of the sounds that I'm usually tweaking on the fly (like the surf stuff).

Next week I'm getting the Fractal FM3 so I'll have videos being made about that experience but I still need to make videos of my two pedalboards so hopefully before I go back to school I can do all of that.

the Strymon Iridium is basically there to be an emergency backup in case I have an amp failure. I don't really use it much anymore but it's handy to keep around.

If the FM3 works well for me I might get an FM9 when they come available again with an FRFR cab and also have a good direct-digital rig later in the year. Thats becoming more important for certain gigs around here - not only church gigs but also theater pit-band stuff.

And yeah, there is dog hair everywhere.

I spent last year puttingtogether a couple of gigging boards, but I'm so black-pilled, I don't think the opportunities are gonna come for me.
Between me not wanting to associate with degenerate MAGA fools and trying to not get Covid and die, it looks like a gigging band is not in the cards for me in the foreseeable future.
Im sure if I lived in a more progressive part of the country I wouldn't be so pessimistic.

Yeah...even here there is a bit of that. My first gig back is in one of my favorite places to play but its in a "no mask/no vax" zone so I'm fairly concerned about even doing it at this point. We'll see how that develops over the next few days.

I have the 45 cal as a JTM 45 sort of drive but I'm not loving it with this amp as much as with the Suhr. At the moment I'm trying to set all of the dirt pedals at a rhythm volume and then stacking them with the extra Spark Mini for a lead boost when needed. I just like the Dude too much to make it my "lead only" pedal.

Ive been struggling with some harsh treble for a while and it looks like the problem was the Badger 30 and possibly the introduction of my buffered splitter pedal. It sounds great with the Deluxe though so this is where I'm at.

A friend of mine picked up the Dude pedal a while back and he loves it. I haven’t had a chance to play it yet, hopefully that will change soon.

Be careful with the gigging choices. I had a possible original Americana thing in the works with some brand new guys, but I'm gonna bail and hunker down through the winter and see how this shit plays out.

The gig thing is hard. I took my gig back two days before they announced Omicron was found in South Africa when there was barely any infection happening here in OC. We had 2700 or so yesterday just on the official report which is probably much lower than reality between unreported at-home tests and people not testing and just being sick. I have a choral mask that I can put a filter in which will make it about the same as an N95 and I'm putting a fan on stage behind me to hopefully blow teh COVIDS droplets back at the audience. I'll just look ridiculous. I only have one show that I'm nervous about and the rest should be ok but its going to be really bad here for the next couple of weeks at least. I'm preparing to teach remotely again for the conservatory if it comes to it.

in Chicago people have to wear masks everywhere, and theyre getting ready to require vaccination card to eat in restaurants.

Then two hours later Im in a 7-11 and the fucking meatheads shove their way up to the counter and act like I’m some kind of pansie who is just in his way because I have a mask on.

Hell, we were sill in the South Bend airport and one of those wanna be Rambos with blue-line-American flags and perverted Punisher skull logo patches on his jacket is standing there at the baggage carousel and neither he or his wife were masked. I definitely feel like I’m living in some weird parallel universe in this fucking state.

I did turn down a calypso gig yesterday indoors in a retirement home. Even with the vax requirements it felt like a horrible idea.

Here in North Alabama, you can tell the more intelligent people out in public are masked. Most are elderly, I'd estimate +/-60% of that demographic will be masked at the grocery store, Walmart, or convenience store. The rest are mostly idiots. I'd estimate only 20-25% of the non-elderly will have on a mask. On top of that not even half of them are vaxed. The elderly are vaxed at 70-80%, but the total population vaxed is still well under 50%.
So the vast majority of the population here are not vaccinated and not masking when in an interior public space.
Thats why my time out in public is very limited and I always wear an N95.
It's also why I have no plans to play any gigs or set foot in any bars in the near future. I had taken to eating out occasionally in places that wern't crowded, but have stopped doing that in the last couple of weeks with Omicron exploding.
