I never really liked REM. I know they were 'good' but after the non stop 24/7 ram it down your throat nowhere is safe from this fecking song disaster' that was 'losing my religion' I lost all interest.

However my phone decided to play 'Nightswimming' in my car yesterday and I realised that id missed that song. Its just some lovely music. I may have judged them too harshly

I recently went through their catalog while listening to an album-by-album podcast. They are not my thing, but they have a few undeniable albums and some really cool riffs throughout their catalog.

I voted They rock the kasbah because from about 1987 till about 1992 they were my favorite band.

Didn't vote as I see them somewhere in between those two choices. Solid band with a handful of great tunes, IMO.

I honestly don't get the concept that if I did not like a band, that must mean that they're not any good...whatever good means in this context other than an account of your personal musical taste.

Great band. But releasing 'Shiny Happy People' was pretty inexcusable.

Peter Buck is one my guitar heros.

Everything pre-Green and Monster. Also Accelerate is a good album.

There's good stuff mixed in the rest as well.

Accelerate was awesome. I’m glad they put that out before calling it quits. I didn’t care for the the first 3 albums after Bill left, without Accelerate, they would have gone out with a whimper.

Their first 4 albums were sublime, but the last I.R.S. album, Document, was the beginning of their downfall in song writing.

Their version of "Last Date" is actually one of my favorite songs. They have others, but this one would be the one I'd want to hear in concert (not sure they ever played it live).
