Reb Beach: Dokken's best guitarist?

Technically, probably John Norum and/or Billy White. They did great work on Up From The Ashes. All things considered, though, George will always be THE MAN in the Dokken genealogy. The progress and evolution that you can hear in his playing and tone from Tooth and Nail to Under Lock and Key and on through Back For The Attack was astonishing. He even took it further on the Lynch Mob albums, IMO. Unique and amazing talent.

I can't agree with this assessment. Reb is skilled, but I don't hear how he is in anyway technically superior to George. What's more, Lynch is one of a handful of guys from the '80s that didn't sound like a Van Halen, Yngwie, or Vai clone. Several guys found their own voices as time passed (Kotzen and Howe in particular), but George had his own thing out of the gate. Heck, DiMartini was initially a Lynch clone (copping his picking and frenetic vibrato techniques). Also, as I've stated in other threads, his leads and fills have a groove that most of his peer group couldn't touch.

That said, his playing is the only redeeming quality of Dokken, but as awesome as it is I can't listen to that stuff anymore.
