I was reflecting this weekend on the horrible lesson I had. You know, kind of like a bad show where none of your stuff is working ? Yah, well thats kind of how my sat. am was. I starting practicing the stuff on Thursday evening. Played it thurs, Friday and Saturday morning, and then effing choked during my lessons.
So here are my reason why MW is the greatest living guitar tutor.
1.) apologetically begins the lesson by opening the door with baggy eyes, and callouses from post-editing Web Videos
2.) when asked for options on how to keep my fingers from getting smushed together playing power chords, quite sarcastically answered "don't know what to tell you about that."
Translation - practice more you **ck...
3.) upon telling him i am not really feeling the ramone's, goes and makes copies of another 4 chord rock song from the 90's, progressively simpler than even "i wanna be sedated." . . (i'm sensing a theme, I think he's trying to let me know that I should be doing more than just coming in to chat for 30 mins on saturday.)
LOL..
I just had to post this. I had absolutely the worst lesson saturday. Between procastinating, new baby, and a 70 hr. a week workload, I have really let my practice time degrade to a few 10-15 minutes strumming sessions per week.
I HAVE HOWEVER gotten a remediation plan together.
Step 1- reset Strat for a little higher action, and have it setup again for 10's. I am even considering just having them block the trem since I don't use it and it does nothing but lead to tuning issues. (I have learned SOMEthing along the way.) I am also learning that quite possibly I might not be a Strat guy. I don't know what it is, but it seems like I spend more time tuning it, than I do playing it.
Step 2- replaced tubes in amp. So now I can play it without the annoying "tune in tokyo" sounds coming from it intermittently. Plus, I am now getting an audible pop when I turn off the main, so there's no telling what's going on with it....
Step 3 - as hard as it is to say, I think I am Actually going to have to PLAY the stuff I am sent home with. I have been performing an ancient ritual to some how divine the Gawdlike guitar skills I love so much to listen to, but alas, it seems Hell is fresh stocked at the present, and the whole "Meet at the Crossroads" thing isn't working for me.
Lastly, the only reason I am posting this in Lounge is to publically apologize for wasting both our time the last couple of weeks.
It's actually kind of cathartic to do a little self analysis and build a plan to fix it.
Onward and upward.
