Help! Princeton Reverb Reissue! '65 or '68?

I'm finally replacing my Classic 30, and I've decided I want one of these two Princeton Reverb RIs. Does anybody here have any experience with either, or ideally both of them? It seems like the '68 is a lot darker than the '65, to the point of almost sounding muted/muddy. But that could just be a matter of replacing the stock speaker with a Jensen or something. I like the sound of the '65, but it's a bit more scratch. Need more info!
 
No experience with the 65, but I played a 68 at Pragestock a couple of years ago and it was all I could go to not go buy one as soon as I got home.
 
Preference. Simple as that. A lot of people tend to love one and be indifferent about the other. I'm a '65 guy. But try both.
 
The big EQ change on the '68 CPR is because they added a 18K ohm resistor to the Bass pot (so it's impossible to turn it down past a certain point) and changed the Bass cap value...that's the extent of the "Bassman tone stack." The Celestion isn't going to help the matter, it'll give smoother overdrive but at the expense of the sparkle at the top end.
 
I love my BF '65 but then again, it is a real '65. As for the speaker, I changed mine out with a Weber 10F150-T (50 Watt)

The favorite for Princeton Reverb:

(if you use pedals for dirt or you want the speaker to stay cleaner): [10F150T, 8 ohm, 50w, light dope].

I prefer the '68, so keep that in mind. :wink:
