Help! Partscaster

The guy told me that the body is a reissue fender body...neck as well. So I think you're right when you say that it's possibly a different pick guard/electronics. I would imagine if it is a reissue body it probably had to be routed for p90's. I don't recall ever seeing a genuine fender with p90's. Then again I have been wrong many, many times before....lol

Fender has done the "swimming pool" route on many Strats in the past. That should work for p90s. I would try to get a look under the guard. If it is just routed for p90s, something is fishy.

Let me see if I understand what you're saying....
Fender has, at times "pre-routed" to accommodate various size pickups. Such as a p90. They also have routed for 3 single coil, I would imagine.
So you're saying if this guitar is "only" routed for p90's then it probably is NOT a genuine fender body...
Is that correct?

Here is a swimming pool route. You can pretty much do whatever you want in it.

I only know of 1 Fender Strat that had 2 P90s and it was rear routed without a pickguard covering the pickups, the Strat O Sonic. (I had one and sold it like a dope)

Probably MIM standard body. Sunburst edges and depth remind me of the veneer years.

Neck isn't Fender unless they plugged up the hole for the string guide really well.
I'm thinking Warmoth, but not even 80% sure. That truss rod wood may be a clue, it's fairly pointy.

SX pickguard and pups?

300 would not be outrageous if it played well.

But yeah, the truss rod hole is very pointy and I'm not seeing that on any of the fender necks on their website so....

Maybe too late, but my .02:

* the pickguard doesn't look good to me, but could be the pics
* body looks 'meh' to me
* not knowing who made the p90's is a concern - you can always plug in and play before buying, but that's awkward if you say "no thanks"
* $400 seems like an odd price point to me. Totally pulling this out of my rear end, but shouldn't it be closer to $250 (if non premium parts used) or more like $550-600 if Warmoth & etc?

If you are looking to drop $400 or so on a Strat, I could think of a lot of other options. And since I'm tossing out opinions, I love p90's but on a Strat I'd prefer pickups that are not as hot / warm.

So I went and looked/played the guitar. I believe the body was real but the neck, not so much. The logo was a sticker. The pickguard was a 3 layer but may or may not be real. It played and sounded ok enough. It needed a little fret work(a couple high frets). The neck didn't "feel" right. I can't really explain it...It wasn't sticky per se but my hand didn't glide correctly over it. I politely told him that I felt that my estimated value and his estimated value were probably too far apart...I didn't make him an offer on it. I would much rather buy a mim and know what I'm getting.

Charvel....same thing! Lol

More or less.
I don't get why the Charvel's get the compound radius necks that Fender seems to save for their American Deluxe/Elites.

I mean it in a good way. Charvel are some good guitars at a pretty good price. I just don't get Fenders thinking there.

They have a really cool black on black so cal pro mod model that is priced somewhere around $800, but I'm sure if I shopped around I'd find it cheaper. It's $1200 on the Charvel site but $800-ish on eBay.
