Officially Freaking the F Out

The Wonder Wench
So as a Government Worker, I am one of the lucky ones that got to come in today, but I have no idea for how long I am going to be essential and for how long Prages and I may have to go without me getting paid. This totally sucks.

I don't want to start any kind of a political thread, I just want to whine about myself and all of the other Govt Emps who are worrying about paying our mortgages and some of us have racked up some hefty medical bills and need for insurance this month too.

Both my brother Geoff and his wife work at the big VA in Cincinnati (she previously worked as a secretary at the IRS, a block away).

I'm guessing they will both be laid off :(

As someone looking in from Europe, Id like to say that this not paying anyone thing is just wildly bizarre in the extreme.

Mojo. I hope you remain essential through this madness.

It also messes up my life (although not financially), as I was supposed to be on several review panels for the National Institutes of Heath and an advisory panel meeting for USAMRIID. My schedule is suddenly a lot more open over the next two weeks. I'm one small cog in the big machine, and canceling my flights and hotels is going to cost the govt thousands with no benefit.

And yeah, let us not get political, as hard as it might be when partisan politics in America has led us to a situation where the government is no longer functional. Is compromise so unpalatable that this is a preferred option?

My day job relies a good bit on govt orders. We had a huge OSHA order that had to be delivered by yesterday in case this happened.

Anyway, mojo mrs p and I hope things continue on.

I wouldn't worry too much. Hell, Reagan and Tip O'Neil shut it down SEVEN different times. It happens. They'll finish their pissing match and move on.

Don't sweat it. I worked for Uncle Sam the last time this happened. It didn't last long (congress has no stomach for pissing constituents off), and everybody will get back pay.

I'm here to sign some papers, then head home.

If the gubment stays closed too long (over 2 weeks) I'll be forced to put some guitars/amps on Craigslist.

Much Mojo man, I'm afraid we are going to be in that same boat soon.

Same to you guys. I can always make money gigging full time so I'm not in panic mode... yet. :)

I'm going to take advantage of the days off even if it's only a few and get some stuff done around the house. The weather's perfect.

Hoping this is very temporary for you all who are directly affected, and for the rest of us. I, myself, am thinking I will focus on the day in front of me and try to ignore the news sites today.

And just to lighten things up a bit
