I picked one up last night. I actually started to write some serious observations but, well, see observation #1. 
Truth is I only do about 3 or 4 things on a smartphone anyway. iPhone5 does those about as well as my old 3G Android... and for more money!

I've been holding off until my phone REALLY needs an upgrade. I have an iPhone 4 and it still works just fine (if a bit slower).

i think the longest anybody will realistically be able to wait is 3 years from purchase. and that third year will likely be filled with slow performance frustrations.
