Rattlesnake Shaker
I wanted a leather pickguard for a Tele, but was a little surprised at the price. So, I decided to start making them myself. For the cost of a pickguard, I got a starter kit and some hide, watched a few videos and tapped the guy at the Tandy Leather store for some tips, then sat down and did it.
Keep in mind this is my first attempt and I learned quite a bit in the process. All told, it took me about two and half hours work, and while it's a little rough, I'm encouraged.

While I'm not a huge fan of tooled leather pickguards, it looks like you did one hell of a job on that...especially as a first attempt. I can only imagine how good the 10th one will turn out. :thu:

I actually started out doing decoy and bird carving, which led to doing some carving work for a guitar builder, which led to guitar building and back finally to another type of carving that shares a lot of conceots. So I've come full circle and started over again. But life is for learning...
