@yabba and other purveyors of disgusting death metal, since the Japanese made Boss HM-2 remains elusive for now (thanks to the ridiculous price tags for even (ab)used ones), I picked up this pedal for an incredible £20:

I already have a Behringer HM-300, which actually sounds ridiculously good (probably the best HM-2 clone out there), but it's a completely plastic pedal, so I got this. Not sure as a backup or my main distortion pedal.

I have tried it for a bit and as far as I can hear it sounds very close to the original, albeit stuck in the 'all maxed out setting', since it has no tone controls.

It's also Teh TROO BYPASS :lol:

Ooh cool, I didn't know TC electronic did an HM-2 clone! Stuck in the "all maxed out" setting would probably be A-OK with me, although I have found that small tweaks of the treble EQ on the HM-2 can help depending on how trebly the amp/speakers/etc are

I have the behringer clone of the boss electric wizard fuzz, which is great, but haven't tried the HM-2 clone (I have a made in taiwan HM-2)

It's definitely nice to know about a sturdier but still economical clone
 
I didn't realize those HM-2 pedals were so desirable. the first three pedals I ever bought were an HM-2, a BF-2 Flanger and a Dunlop Crybaby, all of which I sold or traded at some point before the turn of the 90's.

My first pedal was a HM-2 when I was 15. It was pretty cheap back then. I literally gave it away to a friend as it was so shitty :lol:

BOSS discontinued them in the early 90s I believe. A lot of new bands have recently ‘rediscovered’ THAT sound, hence the ridiculous prices.

Yes, that’s sort of what I meant. But for decades nobody gave a shit about copying those bands. It appears to be a recent thing where this type of sound is in vogue again.

And yes, I am guilty :lol:

Nope, I bought it online without having tested it first.

I am checking out some online clips of the Fangs distortion now though
