And no, this isn't spam, I don't know anything about the company or their owners, and am not dating any of their daughters. :grin: Just read about these on Sound on Sound, a U.K.-based recording technology magazine, which concluded with this: "The difference with these pickups is remarkable. You still have the classic P90 sound with the benefit of a little more focus from the neck pickup. And you can record wtihout the fear of hum. That's what I call a result!"
 
I've not tried their p90, as my p90-like guitar has a dummy coil wired in the circuit and is already silent. I think Mo has their strat pickups, and is a huge fan of the sound and silence. I think others do around here as well. I've never tried any of their stuff, but based on the strong user reviews of Kinman pickups in general from people I trust, I'd certainly give their p90 a try.
 
I do have a set of their Woodstock Plus pickups in my Strat and I love them. Essentialy, they make my Strat sound like I'm playing through a hugely overdriven plexi...but with no noise, and at bedroom volumes thankfully. I don't doubt that Kinman would nail the P90...

The music on this was recorded live and is good example of what my Strat sounds like in a nice room..thorough a Marshall DSL 401..each to their own obviously, but this is the Strat sound I "had in my head" so I was delighted to find it in these pickups:

I really should look into some of those. I have a warmoth with an old set of custom shop texas specials that I am not totally happy with. I keep them screwed all the way down, flush with the pick guard, to take out some of the output and mids. It works, but it isn't ideal and I have them adjusted to the only place where I really like them. It seems a new pickup set would be nice, and noiseless seems better than standard pickups to me. I suck bad enough that I will be standing next to a glowing 'Natural Light Ice' neon sign under the best case scenario, so hum canceling is a bonus.

They have a few different sets..all the way from pretty low output and classic sounding 50's stuff through to the pretty hot ones I use. I also had a set of their Blues/Rock ones in a Strat I sold and they nailed the "texas special" sort of sound without the harshness..give 'em a try if you get the chance :thu:
 
I think that is my main complaint with the texas specials, they sound great, but only in a fairly narrow window. I have them adjusted where I can live with them, but they are not ideal. The only reason I have them is I got them really cheap. Every time I pick up the guitar they are in, I think I should ditch them for something else. I've looked at the Kinman page a few times, and the blues set and 50's models look very good to me. I really should try these sometime. I'd like something that can do the classic 50's strat sound, but sound good with some drive.

With what it sounds like you're after...you really need to pull the trigger. You will NOT regret it. :embarrassed: If you do, I don't do guarantees. :embarrassed:
 
I should add that when I had some problems with the install (due to my own :facepalm:)..I got to speak to Chris Kinman and he was very helpful and keen to make sure my issue was sorted out while he was on the phone. In fact, he called me back from Australia 'cos he didn't want me to be paying for a long distance call.

Check out the Dimarzio Area series of noiseless strat pickups. I have a pair in my strat and I dig them.



Anyhow, I'd love to check out Kinman's take on the P-90 but $160 a pickup is a little spendy for my blood. If I ever run across a used set, I might jump on them.
