Your Worst Nightmare
New Mandobird Day

Some friends got me an Epiphone Mandobird for my birthday. It's a 4-string electric mandolin, and it's pretty cool. I'm slowly getting accustomed to learning chords and scales in this tuning. The strings are in 5ths - GDAE from low to high (like a violin, or opposite of a guitar). And I still haven't plugged it in, yet.

The biggest problem is that now I'm GASing hard for a traditional 8-string acoustic mandolin. :embarrassed:

Congrats!

I actually really like playing Mandos because of the 5ths tuning. the fret spacing was actually my biggest challenge - that was why I bought an Octave Mandolin. Careful or you will end up addicted to mandolins....

Yep they are fun instruments. I've debated with myself, about getting an octave mandolin, off and on for the past couple of years.

Yeah, the fret size adjustment is weird, especially if you have thick fingers. That thing looks really cool though... make some clips!

I've always thought they were fun. Not only for Bluegrass and old-timey stuff, but there was a guy in Chicago who used to kill playing Blues on the mando. Might Joe Young, maybe?

very cool. I want one of those, but can never justify getting one. I have a mandolin but hardly play it.

I like it. I've become pretty obsessed with my Mando since I got it last week. Really fun instrument. I'm trying to work it into my white elephant song.

I love that it's a 4-string. I have an old POS Vega mando that was passed down from my grandfather, and I haven't even bothered to tune it simply because I know it's going to suck. 4 strings though, I could get down with that.
