This could be a difficult post. I'm at least a bit torn about it, tbh.

An old scene buddy of mine (along with another couple people) just opened a small music store. Totally independent, probably most of the guitars and amps were sitting in his garage or warehouse or whatever. [And yes, I'm well aware that if I were so inclined, I would have even more stock (new strings, picks, and accessories aside).] He posted this photo of the shop on fb:

That SG Junior caught my eye.

At any rate, I had a beater guitar (Squier Jagmaster bought in a pawn for $125 USD) that needed new tuners that I didn't want to feck with. When I went to take it in 2 days back, and they hadn't yet priced the SG Junior, but I found out that it was a Chibson. They were very upfront about that.

On the new tuners, they turned the installation/restring around in a day (they happened to have a set of Gotohs that fit). Went in to pick it up today. When I went in, they still hadn't priced the SG Junior, but the co-owner (not the guy I know) said I could have it for $275, since the I knew the other owner. I'd taken along $200 in cash from a deal that fell through a couple weeks ago, and happened to have another $75 in my wallet, by fortunate happenstance. It's in new condition, still had the protective Saran Wrap plastic on the pickup.

So I bought it.

It plays fine, tomorrow I will put it through its paces with some amps. I'm not worried about that, since it was bought from a friend, and frankly I've never met a P-90 I didn't like.

I would never buy one of these from alibaba or some site where my dosh was going to the counterfeiters, but with this one they had already made their nut and it was out in the wild so to speak. I have an Epi LP Special that is highly redundant (I have 2 Gibson LP Specials, one singlecut and one DC, and a Hamer Special), and it should bring in more than I spent on the Junior, so net I won't be out of pocket, will have abided by my own self-imposed "1 in, 1 out" rule (pretty much a necessity due to storage considerations), and hopefully will have helped this shop get off the ground.

But I'll probably go to hell for buying a Chibson anyhow.

Here it is back at Casa Krashpad with an amp and a(n empty-- don't freak out) beer.
