OK - both of the Xaviere offsets arrived today in prime shape! They have both been played a bit and I recorded some clips and took a couple of pics...

First - the Telemaster (XV-JT90)!

The guitar is very nice looking. The body is a two piece ash body and the finish is about the right degree of transparent. The wood is not the best I've ever seen, but is far from the worst. This weights in at about 9.5 lbs. It is setup pretty well from the warehouse. It plays very nicely. The bridge pickup is definitely in the Tele territory, but has it's own vibe. Bright but not icepicky at all. Very ballsy! The bridge mini-hum is on the dark side tonally, but I like it so far. The more I play it the better it sounds. The mic for the clips was a bit to the left of the speaker so it is not as bright as hearing it straight on.

No definitive opinion after a brief session, but I really like what I am hearing.

First off - the guitar is more yellow than the pics show. It is a gorgeous antique white/pale yellow. The red pickguard really sets the color off well. It is a dang nice looking guitar! The finish has some rough spot in the upper horn on the front (dust settling during final drying no doubt) but it is not a big issue. The guitar is pretty light - around 7 lbs, and is very resonate! It just rings when you play it unplugged and sustains forever plugged in. The P90 pickups are quite nice - especially considering they are OEM pups. They have a good snarl when overdriven. Both guitars are very comfortable to play, but due to the lighter weight this one feels incredibly good - especially standing up. I have not realy stretched the strings out enough yet to know if the trem stays in tune when it is used, but it seems to work fine.

Right now I am really impressed with both guitars. It will take a lot more playing and recording to get a true feel for the guitars, but the fact that these are both a steal at the selling price is not in doubt.

Double congrat's! Both look and sound great, but I really like the sound of the P90. Enjoy.
 
It's always nice to buy a guitar (s) that connect with you

Checking out your review of the offsets I'm interested in how the guitars have held up under the test of time and how you evaluate them after owning them for a while.

I'm thinking of getting one. One of the two you got actually.

The P ninety or the ASH telemaster.

I am thinking that, after reading your review, that straight out of the box the P ninety would be better ballanced pickup output wise using an amp without having to adjust the amp when switching from the bridge to the neck.

How are the P nineties? Do they roar? Also, does the neck pickup hang with the bridge pickup adequately when you switch from the bridge to the neck, without messing with the amp? And, are they quiet in the middle position?

Actually, both guitars are pretty well balanced between the pickups.

The P90's sound quite nice. A bit of buzz, but nothing beyond what you would expect. They are dead quiet in the middle position, which I really like. My only issue with the P90 guitar is that the fret ends were not finished very well. I have owned several guitars from Jay (Xaviere) and this is the first one with fret finishing issues. The balance between the two pickups is excellent. For the money I am very impressed with the guitar. Light weight and very resonate. Stays in tune when you use the trem (unless you really dive bomb it...).

I do NOT need another guitar (besides the ones I'm building) but that Orange Jazzy with the P90's is just BEGGING me to buy it. :annoyed:
