Didn't they do this once before in the early 80's? Then sales plummeted down so they wen't back to "Coke Original".

my friend Eric used to work for Pepsi. his conspiracy theory is that it was a ploy to make the switch from sugar to HFCS without anybody noticing.

I tried the "old school" pepsi and mountain dew soda side by side with the currant variants. I prefer the HFCS versions. New coke was about as lame as Pepsi Clear (Right now).
 
New Coke is still sold in the midwest as Coke II, so it obviously had some sort of a market in Chicago.

They had already made the corn syrup switch before New Coke.

I find it interesting that Pepsi and Mountian Dew throwbacks don't use original recipes (they use a lot more sugar) because the pre- corn syrup drinks aren't considered sweet enough to modern soda drinkers.

I remember that at the Jewel I worked a like 10 years ago. I'm not sure if they still make it or not. I'll check when I'm in town in July.
