just a little detour this week. hopefully i'll find some cool stuff from the NAMM show that hasn't been posted already. but i couldn't pass up the opportunity to post this one.

that's Henry Juszkiewicz and Mike Huckabee with the Firebird X in the background.

I have heard little to nothing good about Henry in his tenure as head of Gibson Guitars, other than in a company bottom line way.

he did impact QC. it's significantly better today that it was in the Norlin days by just about every account. it's far from perfect though.

As much as he is hated, Henry J. kind of saved Gibson from the really dark times of the 70's and early/mid 80's. They couldn't give a guitar away in the early 80's, and really missed the boat on the shred scene. Henry's acquisition probably saved the company financially. Also, as Howie said, Gibson under Henry has improved quality control and consistency a lot. He has also brought some new technology to manufacturing Gibson guitars. Also he brought new technology to the instruments themselves...even if no one asked him to do so. Anyway, Gibson could be better, but despite the hate, they are better than they have been in a long time. That said, the guy has allowed a ton of shit ideas out the door, with the firebird x being only the latest example. I always get the impression with a little more effort on focusing the product line and keeping a tight handle of QC, they could be the top of the game.
