Slender Hobbit
On a whim, I decided to pickup the new Blackstar Amped amp. It is a modeler of sorts, it has a dial where you can select different power tube responses and a switch to go from US to Brit to Flat voice. It is really awesome. The cleans are amazing and unlike any other solid state or modeling amp I've tried, when you hit it with dirt pedals, it sounds and responds like a tube amp. It's about the size of a couple Boss pedals and has a bunch of features I won't use (direct out with mic and cab sims, flat and linear settings for using a modeler in front, effects loop) but the bottom line is it just sounds great. It also has 2 9v outs on the back to power pedals, so when I go jam at my neighbors, I can throw this and my Rat in my gig bag and be done.

Looks like a pretty good alternative to lugging around a head.
I have a cab at my neighbors already, so this makes it even easier to head over there to jam. And this sounds really good, good enough that I may ditch my amps and just use this.

I've had this thing for a little over a month now and with the exception of comparing it with my tube amps the first week or so, I haven't used anything but this thing. I finally may be done with tube amps, not because this sounds better or require "too much maintenance" but because this thing is about the size of 2 pedals, weighs almost nothing and sounds great. I still think my tube amps sound a little better, but the ease and convenience of this thing makes up for the 5% sound difference.

I took this amp to my neighbors to jam last night. I was playing one of my Warmoth strats, with 2 single coil pickups in it. My signal was strat, Timmy, Echorec, amp, hot rod deluxe cab (closed back 1x12) with a Warehouse ET65 (I think it's their Creamback). I had the Timmy set for a little over medium gain and just used my volume knob to adjust the range of gain. It may have been the best tone I have ever had in my life. I'm so glad I picked this up.
