MXR Pedals ?

are the MXR pedals any good ?

GC is running the MXR Classic Distortion for $30.00 on sale, I was wondering if it's any good ?
 
MXR pedals are built like tanks and are generally really quiet.

I've got an MXR 6 band EQ and an EVH Phase 90. I haven't tried that particular pedal though.
 
I've had a Dynacomp, Phase 90 (vintage that died a week after I bought it) and an EVH Phase 90.

The Dynacomp is a classic compressor pedal but if you are into modding things you can make it sound WAY better than stock...the EVH Phase 90 is pretty cool but I just dug the Small Stone better..
 
Speaking of compressors, I think I'm gonna sell my CS-3 and eventually get a Barber Tone Press, everything I read about them says they're superior and I don't really use the CS-3 enough to justify keeping.
 
The only reason I haven't tried a Tone Press is because I have a Keeley compressor that I JUST started using...

When I get to work its "rebuild my pedalboard day"...I'll probably do a thread in effects about it...
 
I've heard the Keeley is a good one too, I'd honestly have to A/B them to see which I like better, but I have to sell the CS-3 before moving forward.
 
The Keeley is the best compressor I've ever tried. It feels much more musical than anything else. I haven't tried a Tone Press but from what I understand they sound really nice but function differently due to the "blend" feature.
 
I have to agree with Mark on the Keeley Compressor, it is killer good!

I use a newer MXR DynaComp on my pedal board right now, and replacing it will be my next pedal improvement. It is built very well, but I'm not thrilled about how it works. The older (70's) Dynacomps are great pedals, but sell for lots of $$$$ these days on the resale market.

IMHO, the best compressors are the Keeley, Barber, Analogman, and Diamond. It seems to be the one pedal that cannot be done well on the cheap.
 
I have their EQ pedal. They are very well build pedals. I have not tryed any of the other ones they have.

I've heard that the Diamond is awesome but I haven't tried it...
 
I haven't used my compressor since I left my country band a few years ago but I used an EBS Multi-Comp on about 40 gigs and it sounded really good.

Maybe I should break it out tonight, I haven't really used it in a couple of years.
