More reasons to never use Musicians Friend.

I normally deal with Sweetwater and they're fantastic. I had a moment of weakness, saw a SDotD that I wanted and made a purchase.

That was on Nov 16th... they took the money immediately and then took a couple days to ship the item to me. I opened the box, tried it out, realized it was cheap junk and wanted to return it.

Made a phone call... I was going to have to pay for return shipping. Yes, I owned this $75 item for 10 minutes and it was going to cost me $8.55 to return it. :annoyed:

So.... I process this and they tell me The return label amount will be deducted from your refund.

I just checked my card (separate music account from my normal checking) and not only is the refund not here yet.... they charged me the $8.55 last week for the return.

Mother fuckers got the item back on DECEMBER FIRST and I'm out $83.55 on a $75 purchase?

Musicians Friend sucks.

Well, you're not paying for the time it was in your presence you're paying for making the wrong purchase.

Yeah. I ran into that shit when I bought a SDOTD Alvarez acoustic that developed a crack within a week or two. Tried to send it back and it was so much bullshit I just kept it and use it as a 6 string beater.

Seriously, I've never had to pay return shipping to Sweetwater.... Never had any issues with them over charging me and in fact when one of my 6 month old boom stands stripped out at a gig, the NEXT DAY I had a brand new one waiting for me for our next gig and I hadn't even boxed up the broken one yet, nor did they charge me for shipping either direction.

It's their policy so... I'll play by their rules it just kinda sucks and you can't hand return things to the mother ship (Guitar Center).

If you’re returning something because of buyer’s remorse then you should have to pay return shipping. It’s not their fault you bought something on a lark.

Them not sending the refund is BS, tho. I’d reverse the charge.

I'm not disputing the return shipping... that's their policy.

I'm irritated because they said that they'd take the fee out of my refund and instead charged me MORE and still haven't issued a refund.

I can almost guarantee they will process the refund minus the postage and I'll have to contact them again to fix being "double charged" for the return label. :annoyed:

I have to say I am at a loss as to why you feel it is unreasonable to pay return shipping. The item is not broken, incorrect or anything else which MF could control. It's something you don't like. I would make you pay return shipping too.

The reason the refund has not been sent could have nothing to do with MF. When I process a CC for a customer the money is deducted from their account immediately, but I normally don't; receive the money from the processor for around 3 days. Same thing with a refund. It comes out of my account instantly but the customer doesn't normally see the refund on their end for 3-5 days. Their is nothing I can do, it's the processor.

As far as charging the $8.55, that is an accounting issue. They need to issue the refund for the full amount, then charge the return shipping. If they just deducted it from the total of the refund it would create an accounting nightmare.

I'm only disputing the timing... and lack of refund.

They didn't even charge me for the label when they sent it... that would have made sense.

Received the return on December 1st.... charged me the shipping on December 2nd.... and here we are SIX DAYS later and I still don't see a refund. My Credit Union never takes more than 3 to apply a refund and even then, it shows as pending on my account.

Sorry that popped up while I was typing. I'm a slower typer.

I really do think it's an issue with the processor. They are awful and hold money going both ways for ridiculous, seemingly random amounts of time. They are the middleman between your Credit Union and MF. I have tried several different processing companies. Some are better than others, but they all suck to some degree.

Sweetwater's customer service seems to be very good by all accounts, but I have never used them. That being said, next time I see you I'll tell you some interesting Sweetwater stories.

Just got off the phone with them..... It's comical what happened.

They originally processed it as an EXCHANGE.... so they shipped me out another one.

But then they realized the mistake and put a "Return to sender".... so the replacement I didn't ask for had to ship out of their warehouse... get to our UPS... then turn around and travel BACK to them.

It's scheduled to arrive back to them today.

I'm just happy that this was a small item.... I do Sweetwater deals for items 10 times this dollar amount. Move the decimal point right on this and imagine how convoluted it could have got....

I dealt with Musicians Friend for years and never had a problem, even with returns, though I think I only returned one item due to poor quality of the item.

I had an issue a while back with tubes from them. I will say I can't count the number of times I have ordered from them and I have only had an issue a handful of times. The good thing is that in the end, you know it will always be made right which can't be said for some online experiences. I mostly use Sweetwater these days, mostly for the candy
