More Jazzmaster drivel (Reverend please check in)

The 60th anniversary has the old shitty bridge. Pretty good otherwise.

As far as Fender, NOT Custom Shop, but Mod Shop - e.g., the "you build it" on their website. My preferences would come in under budget, but I am very, very leery of dealing with FMIC at that level. I can see it turning into a Trail of Tears.

My biggest issue with the Nash JM-63 is the price - $2,300.

What do you like / not like about it?

Bridge swap for the authentic JM experience.

Two of my bros have dealt with FMIC via the custom shop with no problems...except my super picky bro was pissed about hum TWICE on vintage spec custom single coil guitars because he’s a princess. I’m guessing the mod shop would be fine.

If you weren’t sold on the JM trem, I would heartily recommend custom ordering a G&L.

Used is 15-1800 and up. Obviously the used market has its pros and cons.

The build quality, the ridiculously tight neck pocket, the Lollars, the treble bleed, the electronics work is top notch, the neck will feel broken in and just begs you to play it.

Edit: the bridge they use is solid and the buzz stop is easy to take off if you want those twangy strings behind the bridge

Plus, as I mentioned with my Nash strat thread, Bill stands by his products even when they’re out of warranty. The neck on my Nash strat was beyond saving and he replaced it and set the guitar up for free, no questions asked.

Will you be in MA any time soon?

I haven’t found anything to dislike on the three Nash guitars I own. I might wish one of them had a humbucker, but that’s an easy fix down the road and not a fault of the instrument.

As much as I love Reverends, none of them really have the Jazzmaster tone or feel, the biggest part of that being a Wilkinson vibrato instead of a JM style one, and that's not a quick fix. At this point I think you should reach out to @telecaster911 or another builder and have them make it to your spec.... if you're looking for #1, take the time and get it right. I think you'll be happy you did.

OTOH, I love the TVL Jazz. So get that, decide it's not for you, and flip it to me really cheap.

Peen - please read this in Joe Pesci's voice. "BING, WHEN ARE YOU GONNA GET IT THROUGH YOUR THICK FUCKIN HEAD THAT I MEAN THE MOD SHOP, NOT THE CUSTOM SHOP?!"
Or am I wrong, and they're the same? To be sure we're talking about the same thing, here's the URL: https://shop.fender.com/en-US/mod-shop/

Does G&L make a Jazzmaster?

Block, I haven't been back to MA since we buried Mom. Not sure when I'd possibly return.

I appreciate what you say about the Nash. The only 'dealer' we have here is a guy who operates out of his house, and is so freaking weird that if he refuses to answer the door you're supposed to know to go to a local mom and pop and have them call him, as they're the only phone call he'll reliably answer during the day. No, I'm not kidding, and welcome to New Mexico. Anyhow, the Nash Strats he had in there were ... just nice Strats. I don't know what else to say.

Also, there were a grand total of zero used JM-63's on Reverb.

$1,500 for a Nash sounds appealing. So does $1,800 for a Fender where I'd only (maybe) have to swap the bridge.

TBH, I'm trying so hard not to say "it really shouldn't be this fucking hard." But it is. And I'm sure I'm the problem somehow.

By the way, I've had more drama today in my classroom than the entire previous two years, so I'm waaaaaaaaaay on edge. (cuz we've had shootings and stuff this year, albeit off campus)

They have strat style vibratos.

Jazzmasters are fickle beasts.

I saw that all the used JM-63’s on Reverb dried up. There were over a dozen just a month or two ago.

You should email or call Bill if it’s sometbing you really want to investigate. Tell him exactly what you want out of a Jazzy. He’s a really good guy and very good at communicating back and forth.

I get that you’re looking at the mod shop. But I doubt Fender is going to fuck you over extra because you’re buying one line vs the other. They’re in the business of making money selling guitars. I can’t imagine the mod shop is a total shitshow. Maybe see if anyone at Offset Guitars or TGP has any experience with em.

I'm not worth Bill Nash's time, I don't think.

I don't know. It seems cruelly paradoxical to me that at one point, the world was lousy with good vintage JM's and they were snapped up by alterna-types because they were unwanted and plentiful. And I played plenty of them, they were in fact "plentiful."

Now it's $4k to start the fucking conversation.

Thanks 2 Peen for understanding context and humor online. Appreciate your observation. I may drift this summer, if I go to CA I'll more than likely go by Corona and see if I can make a contact.

With kindness - no, I won't play 11's. I will play 9's or 10's.

This is my curse and my mission. "Why should I care? Why should I care?"

Incorrect. That album is Townshend’s Gretsch + Fender Bandmaster rig.

Hmmm, that's why it sounds so nice. Hiwatts sound amazing live, but I would never record with mine. And why have people always characterized Townshend as a great "rhythm guitarist" when he plays beautiful leads all over that album? Maybe because those leads are actual melodies and we only equate noodling with lead.

Anyway Townshend played that album through a Hiwatt live.
