Some new stuff for me to hear... Cool... I am really digging The Devils, in particular! Sounds like new meets old metal/psychedelic... Really bichin... I'll have to do some research on them...

That's some seriously badass music... old NES games were practically all heavy metal themes in 8-bit synthesizer form.

Good stuff people! :thu: Some of my faves:

The mighty Fear Factory, off the new album "Mechanize":

8-string guitar content

Opeth:

Dream Theatre (my fave track by them):

BTW Paulski, I remember the Annihilator thread from HCEG. I was surprised at all of the trashing they were given. Jeff Waters is a great guitar player, and I stated as much on HCEG, AND that people needed to realize that there are other musical styles besides classic, and blues-rock! I think it's great Annihilator is still going strong as a band! :thu:

I'm a fan of classic metal. So, for me, the template that all modern metal should NEVER forget is Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden and Judas Priest. Early Ozzie, RJ Dio, Priest and Maiden have great vocals. If the band doesn't have high quality, distinctive vocals, I'm not interested. I was willing to listen through some of the cookie monster vocals of early Pantera because many of the riffs were killer...But, I'm long over the cookie monster as a metal singer.

Opeth are the one band I can take cookie monster vocals from...because of the superb music and also the fact that Akerfeldt has a great "clean" voice and they mix it up really well.

+1 Man! :thu: Cynic is the same way for me in that regards.

:)..saw Opeth on Monday doing their "Evolution" gig at the Albert Hall in London..the whole "Blackwater Park" album and then a "greatest hits from each album" set...3 hours of Opeth!....just about the best gig I've been to in a long time. :thu:

Oh Man! That's depressing me! :( You're SO LUCKY! I have NO IDEA, when they're even going to be close to my neck of the woods! I'd LOVE to see Mikael & Co. (ditto for Paul & Co. of Cynic) perform.

I recently got into Bacnds such as Sick of it All and Madball due to doing some roadrunner research and i have to say i love 80's NY hardcore.

What are your thoughts/projections of the new Maiden album then?

You're going to hate me more..they toured here together in November '08...when Opeth were touring "Watershed"...another awesome gig. :)

I haven't really liked a whole Maiden album since "Seventh Son"..there's been bits and pieces that I've enjoyed since..but not sure how bothered I am about a new one
