Glad you’re feeling good. Eating the wrong thing can definitely make you feel like crap. Alcohol too. Sucks.

Add a little strength training and the lbs will come off even faster. Nothing extreme needed. Even just squat type moves and body weight exercises. Just warm up and stretch first.

I just need to find the time. WHat I really need is a half hour to do some yoga every day first.

If you’re looking for an easy to follow program, P90x3 is only 30 mins a day and you pick your level of intensity/how hard you push. You can ignore the meal plan if you wish and just use the workouts to get in better conditioning and strength. The yoga workout is quite good as are the bonus stretching program and extended warm up program.

I finally got my wife to start doing it. The first few weeks she was ready to quit every day but now she’s feeling strong and can keep up a lot more.

I just finished six weeks of PT (for nerve issues originating in the C-spine) and I need to figure out how to stay active. I just had my last HS soccer match to referee, and the spring Club season won’t start for a while. I was thinking about biking after work, now that it’s staying light a bit later, maybe bike on the training stand, I don’t know. I still can’t quite get to -35 pounds. I’ve been stuck at about 32-33 since around Thanksgiving time...

I
Literally don’t have the time between school, work and kids. My exercise is parking at the far end of the campus from where I need to be and walking a mile to class and a mile back to
My car.

30 minutes plus an extra 10 to stretch n shit. Get up 40 mins earlier. It hurts for a week or two and then you start craving it. Doing it first thing in the morning will give your weight loss an added boost too.

I’ll stop nagging before you ban me

I already get up at 4:45. My typical morning is getting up between that and 5, "morning ablutions", soak my hands in the wax bath for 10-15 minutes (otherwise my hands turn into painful claws halfway through the day). Then I practice until 6:10 at which point I get my kids up for school. Feed them and myself and get ready for school (them and myself). Drop them by 7:35 or so and then on to my school. Classes until 11ish or up to 2 pm on Wednesdays. Then home for lunch, pick the kids up from school (that takes from 1:30-2:40 because of their staggered schedules between the elementary and middle schools even though they are on the same campus. Home usually to teach for a bit either at the house or at the studio in anaheim and then I still need to practice and study and try not to eat fast food in my car. Home or done teaching or studying by 9:30pm. T.V. with Mrs Wein until 11 or 12pm . Wash rinse and repeat.

When I start having a normal life again I am rejoining the gym. I really miss the gym.

I still feel really good. Like suspiciously good.

We had "date night" last night with dinner and a movie and somehow I was down a pound this morning. I was actually really good at dinner although I forgot that hummus was a no-no on Whole30. I'll live.

If this is how I'm going to feel eating this way I really don't want to go back to my normal eating. For some reason, I've done this diet before and not had this reaction so I'm thinking that something I've been eating on a regular basis has been really fucking with my system. I know there was too much sugar in various forms.

It’s amazing how you can still eat a lot and lose 13 lbs in less than two weeks. Maybe not so much when you start at 278, but still.

I feel a lot better over all although my mood and energy levels are a little funky.

I’ve done the whole 30 twice but I could never keep it up and the weight came back. Last June I gave up meat. Yea sounds crazy and all but it was life changing for me. We literally ate meat nearly every day forever and I don’t miss it at all. It’s all about what works for each individual.

Yeah. I'm going to have to try and make some sort of permanent change or it won't stick. I'm on the verge of some serious health issues if I don't though so thats a pretty good reason.

It’s kind of terrifying how good I feel now physically. Stress and my mental state pushed me into a cycle of eating like shit, feeling like shit ad then eating like shit to make myself feel better. My energy and ability to concentrate are both much higher although I need to eat more often. I’m starting to dread adding other foods back in at this point because I like how I feel although I cant eat this way forever.

Also, weighed in at 261.6 this morning, which is down about 16lbs.Im looking forward to perhaps having more than one option in stage clothing this weekend since I’ll fit into a few more shirts again :embarrassed:

Three week check-in. Still doing well with my eating. I was 258 on the scale this morning which puts me at about 20 lbs down. I'm actually eating quite a bit so I'm not starving myself but I'm surprised that the weight loss hasn't slowed down.

I made sure to eat a decent meal before I left for each gig this weekend and then brought snacks to eat between sets to keep my energy up and that worked really well. At one point I pulled my McFeely out to play Friday night after not using it since the night before I started the diet and realized that the strap was too low because I was thinner. That was strange but nice.

The biggest change that I noticed which is also the scariest is that my cognitive function is better. I played both gigs without making any of the stupid mistakes that I've made and attributed to other factors. I'm better able to focus when I study and play music and I physically feel different both onstage and after the gig. My wife thinks that the change has to do with sugar and starchy carbohydrate overindulgence - the kind of crap I binge on when I'm stressed out. She's probably right.

As far as what I'm eating, each week I've been making dishes like a chicken Scarpariello, meatloaf, pork loin, chicken breasts and other proteins where I have leftovers to work with. Mrs. Wein also made a great Shrimp dish this week. I'm eating at least one salad a day with a ton of bell pepper, cucumber, tomato and whatever I can throw in that is compliant and I make my own salad dressings. Breakfast is usually either leftover proteins and fruit or eggs with proteins, peppers, and onions mixed in. (proteins meaning whatever leftover meat is in the fridge that day). I'm also eating more avocado and I love throwing spicy Italian peppers and olives in stuff to kick up the flavors. I also eat sweet potatoes and other vegetables. Drinking my coffee black and having nothing but that, water and unsweetened ice tea.

If I have to eat at school I've found one place in the food court that I can get a Poke salad if I change their dressing to the Vegan Italian (no soy in that) or Togos does a Mediterranean salad that I can alter to fit as well. Tonight we're having a family dinner with the extended family at Black Angus (never my first choice) so I'm going online to check out the menu and plan what I can order before I get there.

Besides the weight issue a big part of this is straightening out my bloodwork. I need to have a better handle on my cholesterol and blood pressure and I was told that I was verging on "pre-diabetic" with last physical so I'm shooting to do better on that test in a couple of months as well. I think I've hit a "process" that I can sustain by having a ton of food available for me to easily prep at home and restricting how much I eat on the run. I'll check back in next week. The end of my thirty days is March 13th and then I'm thinking that I'm going to start reintroducing some good grains like Quinoa.

She’s right. Sugar and carbs.

What you’re eating isn’t far off from what my normal is now. I have a salad most days. Breakfast is bacon and eggs. Lunch is usually meat, cheese, and pickles. We found a low carb bread, so now I have a sandwich with pickles on the side. I get some low carb cookies to go with my coffee. Dinner is when I usually get the salad in. Sometimes just a salad, but usually with ribs, wings, steak, or meatloaf. When I’m out and potatoes come with the meal, I try to swap in sweet potatoes. Not low carb, but a nice treat.

I was pre-diabetic just over a year ago. I got it sorted out in less than 6 months and keep it sorted.

I just went through my closet, again, and I’m donating two suits, about a dozen pairs of pants and even more shirts.
If I ever need that size again, I deserve to have to pay for the clothes again.

You can do it.

I gotta say, pulling off eating like that and losing weight with the schedule you have is freaking impressive. That is not an easy feat. I'm two weeks from going on a cruise so I'm not going to make any drastic changes this week but need to get back to eating right. I've slipped for sure.

But here is a question I have. I don't plan to give up meat but I can probably stand to eat less of it and probably less animal protein in general. From all I have read and trying to piece together what makes sense and eliminate the weird bro science stuff, I think I should be eating a more plant based diet with animal protein as well. But when I think about reducing some of the protein - one reasonably sized portion of steak instead of the biggest one they have, a nice piece of fish instead of 2, a reasonable sized portion of chicken instead of half a bird, etc.- I struggle with what to fill the rest of the diet with. I get a nice kale salad mix at Costco which I like, and we try to do a veggie but it seems like we are limited to broccoli, green beans, brussel sprouts. I'd be interested in you guys sharing some of the

That’s the hard part.

I eat lots of salads and I throw in crunchy stuff (peppers, cucumbers, carrots, nuts) and things like olives and hotnitalian peppers to make it more substantial and less boring without being unhealthy.

Other than the veggies your talking about I eat a lot of sweet potatoes. My wife makes good asparagus too so I don’t hate that anymore. I do hate zucchini and squash but that’s useful too.

Today is officially 20 lbs . 278.8 to 258.8

I think it gets a little slower from here.
