Elite Corksniffer
Ya know...I hate to make a thread just to bash another forum but this really frosts my ass. I got banned over there for calling a few people corksniffers on one of the bugera shitstorm threads. Apparently "corksniffer" is some kind of horrible insult over there (never mind that tgp has a well-known reputation for corksniffery).

A few minutes ago I popped in to see if anything new was going on and what do I see?

A thread titled "Fellow Cork Sniffers" by a guy bitching about Asian amps and how he wants to see the amp forum revert back to the snobbery it once had where all they talked about was high end, boutique, corksniffery type amps.

So here's a guy admitting that he's a corksniffer and admitting that they are a forum full of corksniffers, yet when I say it I get banned? There is some very selective modding/enforcement going on over there. Not to mention, one of the main anti-bugera instigators on the thread I got banned for is still there stirring up shit and bashing bugera every chance he gets, and not a slap on the wrist.

Anyway, here's the thread I just saw.

Fellow Cork Sniffers
I am a cork sniffer and proud of it. I only really have interest in the good things in life. Is it wrong for me to wish for a separate amp category for boutique amps only? I am sick of having to sort through all the threads on the dozens of Asian amps these days. The Gear Page used to be about the hard to find high-end amps. Call me a hater or a troll, whatever, the amp forum is diluted and I have a feeling I'm not the only one who feels this way.

The emporium is much more enjoyable since it was broken down to different categories. The Amp forum could be too.

And of course, since I'm banned I can't even email the moderators about this shit.

Bunch of elitist corksniffery peckerheads, imo. I think when my ban gets lifted I'm probably going to end up getting permanently banned.

And the Bugera rampage continues!

[if I could get to the smiley from work, I would totally post the banana riding the reindeer. Seems appropriate for some reason]

I've been over there for a few years, but I tend to stick to the "Small Luthier" forum.

When I first got there, I thought they had no sense of humor and got their panties in a bunch for no reason, while others could debate topics..... but now I think they assume that anyone with fewer than 100 posts there is probably a troll and if ANY posts are questionable, they grab the pitch forks.

Once you've paid your dues there, then you can engage in a more spirited dialogue without being burned at the stake.

I have been to TGP once or twice, literally, in all of the years I have been posting on music forums. It isnt a place I see myself going again.

You really have not lived until you have been banned by the TGP. I know more people who have been banned there than all other forums combined. I am a member there, but I never post. I just use it to peruse the 'for sale' sections.

Dave... the Fender forums.

I was denied access there after only 2 posts. I was never told I was "Banned" but rather there were sudden problems with my logon and I was going to have to re-register.

I don't really have a problem with "cork sniffers", per se...

But the thing that gets me about a lot of the guys at TGP are that many of the guys who are snobbiest re: boutique amplifiers are the same ones who couldn't sound as good as a great player through a $1000 amp if you put a gun to their heads, but who'd never admit it.

I've never hung out there......are they really as bad as TGP??

The thing I found was after years of playing guitars I built from bolt together parts through beat-to-hell pawn shop amps... and I finally can buy some good quality stuff (2Kish guitar, 2Kish amp) that many of the budget and import players consider "boutique" barely register as anything other than a baseline with the cork sniffing crowd....

... and even if you venture into the 3 and 4 K territories for guitars and amps.... now you're in "pro level" but there's still ANOTHER layer of cork sniffing above that... with Custom Shop guitars built from 300 year old imported woods with the ivory of a virgin baby elephant... played through a vintage amp blessed by the Dali Lama.

It made it much easier to stop worrying about what financial bracket something's in and buy with my ears and gut instead of my eyes and expectations. If you can hear and feel the difference between a $900 instrument and a $2900 instrument, then it's worth it to you. Otherwise, be content with the $900 instrument whether you paid $1000 for it or $100.

Guitarman3001,

You don't seem to know the difference between using a word in a title, and calling somebody a name. Name calling is a personal attack. They aren't supposed to allow personal attacks on TGP. You deserved your ban there.

Of course, cork sniffers exist on TGP....Notice I used the term without specifically directing it at anyone in particular. There are also plenty of cork sniffers on HC. I don't appreciate gear snobbery from boutique enthusiasts or budget enthusiasts.

Do you think maybe you can ever get over this incident? I know you tend to like to play the victim. I've read your numerous complaint threads about GC and notice you continue to shop there. Has the concept of hypocrisy ever crossed your mind?

You've already posted about this subject a LOT. You're obviously butthurt. Maybe you should just let it go and move on and let the healing begin. Or, perhaps, I could recommend a nice cheese to go with the subject matter.

A good sharp cheddar would be great! Thanks!

I own both "cork sniffer gear" and some stuff that could be considered budget or consumer. I get tired of the snobbery especially from people who can barely play what they can afford to buy. If Scott Henderson or someone of that level was to turn his nose up at a piece of gear I think he's earned the right. He's probably used a ton of gear at all price points as he built his musical career and knows what works for himself. The middle-aged accountant who can barely make it through a 12 bar blues at the local blues jam on his David Gilmour custom Shop Strat reproduction not so much.

Perhaps Supporting Members get different treatment.

Nope they don't I'm a supporting member there and I get hassled by one of the mods there almost every time I post.
But he's has issues with me.....ah i mean he's got issues.:)

It's partly this, and partly the fact that Scott Henderson has also been around long enough to realize that there are guys out there on tour with MIM Fenders who rent their amps every night from local music stores who sound every bit as good as anyone ever has.

We are still allowed to have nice stuff, suck at playing it, and NOT be gear snobs, right?

What I saw over there was a bunch of "my peen is bigger than yours because I have a Soldano/Dumble/etc and a Baker/McIntruff/etc.". It was about the gear, not the tone. Total turn off for me, especially when I can be pretty confident that my 300 dollar Xaviere through my 750 dollar Mark III (I miss that amp!) could sound just as good as most people's rigs there. You wanna spend thousands on a guitar or amp? Cool. Let us hear why it is worth so much and I will respect that. Most of what I saw on TGP was just d-baggery.
