This is my first "Lick of the Week". I'm going to see if I can keep up both the Monday podcast and the Thursday LOTW for as long as I can. :)

This week we are having a little inaugural contest for those of you who are interested....take the lesson below and film a video of yourself using the licks in a solo or coming up with your own original licks using the 6th chord arpeggio in the lesson and post it in this thread in "String Theory":http://markweinguitarlessons.com/forums/showthread.php?26037-Lick-of-the-Week-Up-the-Down-6th-Chord-%28with-contest!%29

Since I stole the lick idea from one of Toms' Jump Blues Lesson modules Tom and I will judge the videos...if we have a ton of them well choose our top 3 and let you guys vote. The winner gets their choice of one months free subscription to any of Tom Harkenriders lesson modules in the MWGL School of Music!

Deadline for video submissions is Monday May 2nd and we'll crown a winner later that week. :thu:

...I think im gunna take a stab with this...could I, say, take a little blues that came up with in my gigging days, and record it, incorporation those riffs into my chorus?...or are you lookin just a solo?...

sure, why not?

Cool lesson Mark! The solo in this tune is pretty much based all around the 6th and the flat 6 idea for a jazzy vibe. A tune I wrote called Play That Baby:

I love it! The way it starts off with that intervallic bit, especially!

I'm gonna steal it

Thanks! It's not a very good solo but the idea is there. I had just written the tune when this was recorded, so I been working over that idea a bunch trying to materialize the sound I hear in my head for it. It's not there just yet but almost. Hopefully we'll get tomorrow night's gig on video to compare~

that would be cool.

Cause I'm gonna steal the good bits out of that, too :embarrassed:

Cool Mark... The audio is kind of low on this, by the way... Anyways, this is a familiar lesson from comp solo lessons...

OK, I just spent the last 15 minutes fiddling with this, my own way... I going to go ahead and work on some kind of short video, just a few bars, to just show how I interpret into my own style of whatever you call it... I don't think it is going to be ground breaking material, but maybe others might find inspiration in it somewhere... I know I do, at least...

Cool! I am going to hack away at this thing too. I may or may not enter, but hack away I will. I notice it is on the itunes podcasts too. Good! That makes it easier to rewind and etc. whilst I hack.

Hack away! I'm curious how folks do with this...

I started getting a version down both up an down the chord and over the other chords but was too sleepy to really confirm accuracy and timing. will go over the tab and work timing this weekend. First hacks completed.

Guitar hack I am!

Anyways, please do record something... Not because of a contest, but because it is always interesting to hear and see how other players interpret an idea... In other words, you might have some unique riffs that I really dig, and might want to steal!
