I don’t get the fascination with comic book superheros by supposedly mature adult humans. I outgrew that shit by the time I was 12 or 13 years old. What the fk is wrong with people?

Comic heroes are the modern equivalent of mythological heroes. Most often they can be broken down into gods mingling with mortals, or humans trying to be gods. Explorations of character flaws during heroic journeys.

Dismissing the value of the story based on it's pulp comic origins is the same as dismissing all animated features as "kids cartoons".

I hear you, but I also realize that it's not for us to decide what entertainment and escapism is enjoyed by others.

Personally, I don't mind comic books or the characters, but admittedly all of my favorites aren't of the superhero variety. The movies are fine bits of escapism, or at least they can be...some are objective trash (your objectivity may vary :bigg:).

To your statement, I used to wonder about all the folks I know whose musical taste was stuck in the high school years. Especially among my generation, where HS music that the mid - late '80s. With how good the '90s were to my ears, I didn't understand how you could chose to remain mired in the '80s music. But as we all know, nostalgia plays a potentially massive role in our lives. So, if HS truly represented the best days of your life, the music would likely remain hugely important to you.

Anyway, my main issue with the comic book supes is Hollywood's need to use them to avoid creating actual new ideas. Yet despite the wealth of detailed source material, they tend to fuck with it endlessly, usually making an inferior "live action" take on said material. Just the general rehashing and remaking of films is also tedious...we don't need another adaptation of Jane Austin's (plug in renown author of choice here) greatest hits every five to 10 years.
