I am getting a lot out of your lessons, many many thanks for being so generous! I've wrapped up the 4 part Minor Pentatonic series, and have learned a lot.

One thing I would like to see is a lesson that takes a lead from a well known tune and dissects it, pointing out which scale(s) or mode(s) are used. In other words the practical application of the scales we're working hard at learning. Even if it's a "stuck in the box" type of solo. I can pick out some of the leads that are blindingly obvious, but so many others use modes or passing tones that make it hard for me to figure out what scale the player is using.

Hi Steve!

I'm glad that you are finding the lessons so useful!

I have been trying to work solo transcriptions from my own music into most of the lesson series since I own the copyrights. I am very hesitant to transcribe and post lessons of other people songs (such as a Hendrix or Stevie Ray Vaughan) because of the copyright issues. Artists (or at least their management) such as Prince and Steve Vai have gone through Youtube and either had videos containing their music deleted or in some cases entire youtube channels have been shut down. Even though there are many people who are still posting those lessons I am a little afraid of that kind of action (I've already had one "cease and desist" letter this year pertaining to my website >:().

I still do those kinds of lessons for my "in studio" and webcam students and I've done custom lessons where I've shot the video and just emailed it to someone but I won't be posting lessons like that here on the site.

I can recommend solos for you to learn, however. If you get Powertab (which is free) you can find TONS of transcriptions available online...check this out:

I understand, didn't really think about that until you mentioned it. Maybe one day I can be a web cam student of yours...

I have Guitar Tab Pro, which I think is similar to PowerTab. Being a Mac user I opted for Guitar Tab Pro since it's cross platform. I can actually run Windows but only do so when really necessary. But since it's free maybe it's worth firing up XP!

I didn't know that Powertab was windows only..thats kind of a bummer...I'm going to be going Mac in a few months....I'll have to check out Guitar Tab Pro...is there a lot of music available for it?
 
I've only started gathering tabs for it, there seems to be a fair variety. I'll send you some links that I've found.

Since you're going to Mac let me know if you need any help at all (remotely, obviously!). I've been a Mac user and developer for many years, have some Apple certifications, etc. Would love to repay the favor you've done for us struggling guitar players!

Oh, I just remembered, there is a shareware PowerTab viewer for the Mac, you can view and print you just can't create/edit.

Cool! I'm sure I'll be reaching out to all of my Mac buddies once I really start working with one...

I just inherited an older Powerbook G4 from a family member so I've been getting my feet wet with OSX but I excited about getting a new Macbook Pro in a few months...I spend so much time fixing computers and working around corrupted operating systems here in the studio...we have 4 computers and they have multiple users all day long...they get treated like the village bicycle and I have to pick up the pieces.

This 5 year old laptop works perfectly and I am the 3rd owner...the 1st was my nephew who dropped it on the deck of his Navy ship hard enough to crack the case...
 
Cool. you'll love OS X. Play around with GarageBand when you can, for the price it's pretty cool. And again, email me with any mac related questions you may have, would love to help out.
