Lemon 'Shandy' beers…Yea or Nay?

I've been wanting to try the Leinenkugel's, but I've only seen it in the 12-packs. A 12 pack of beer would last me all summer long :embarrassed:
 
to have one or maybe two......yea.....but no way could i sit by the campfire and drink a 6 of them
 
Not really for me.........I have had both of those, and I'd rather have something else.

Just me, though.

Craft beers that try to "lighten up" by flavoring with lemon aren't really my thing.
 
A friend of mine brought over some Stiegl grapefruit shandy the other day. I like grapefruit, so it was nice. I wouldn't drink it regularly. But it is refreshing enough.

These always seem like a shameless gimmick to me. When I drink a fruity I skip the phoney craft beers and go for a Framboise.
 
The Leinie's are pretty good, and you should be able to find 6-packs.

Other than that and orange, I really don't care for any shandy-types.

As far as lemons in beer, don't let the haters deter you - they float slices of lemon in weizens in Germany, so if it is acceptable there... :cool:

Corona + lime OTOH...
 
The leinenkugal stuff was a major disappointment. Very little flavor and seemed to have no alcohol in it.

A few ounces of lemon pine sol was a vast improvement.
 
Lime in a Corona is necessary to hide the skunkiness.

I like a slice of orange in a white/wheat/weissen beer.

My experience of shandy is Twist Shandy from about 20 years ago. It was awful.
But the idea does appeal to me. It just sounds refreshing.

I have been trying to find a radler around here and just haven't found a restaurant or bar that serves them yet.
I like grapefruit and it sounds even more refreshing than a shandy.

When we were in B.C. last year, we found that ciders were all the rage and they are starting to become popular here.
Magner's Pear Cider is very tasty and refreshing. I like them when I'm really parched because they get served with a big glass of ice.
I've tried Molson's Cider and... Ewwww.
I'll be searching for more craft level ciders from now on.
 
Not really a fan - the wife likes Leinenkugel Summer Shandy, though. Closest I get to a fruity beer is Blue Moon :embarrassed:
 
Limes are traditional in Corona to keep the flies/gnats out of your beer (so the story goes....)

I am not a big fan of fruit in beer, though I had a blueberry stout-y local beer that was absolutely dynamite.....forget the name of it, but it was excellent.
 
On the right day they can be nice... I recently had a blood orange beer that I liked a lot better though.

The 9% could have something to do with it, though, too. It was definitely not something you wanted to drink while mowing the lawn. You'd die.
