Just had a Mark Wein moment

OGG

Master of the Meh
I just had a full tilt, nuclear melt down on (what turned out to be) the new assistant principal at the middle school my boys go to in front of about 100 people.

Long story, but suffice to say that I have grown completely intolerant of the never ending ineptitude demonstrated by the so called "Educators" in this town. The great part is, I was calmly talking to my son about a situation that had just happened (Wherein he was given detention today for not completing an assignment that was due today, but given out yesterday, while he was at home sick and had no way of knowing). This was after waiting in front of the school for 30 minutes trying to find him. It turns out, this same "Teacher" is the same one who refused to meet with my wife and I at the beginning of the school year (unlike the rest of his teachers who were more than happy to), so we could give her the heads up about his severe anxiety.

The poor kid was beside himself when I found him today. Tears were streaming down his face... It was awful, and it's the second time this same "Teacher" has made a stupid, stupid move. So I was telling my son (in a normal speaking voice) that I would get a hold of the Superintendent when we got home, to see about setting this "Moron" straight. I guess the assistant principal was right next to me when I said it and she interjected herself into our conversation. She's new, I hadn't met her yet, only the principal. I asked her to please mind her own business, upon which time she identified herself as the AP and very indignantly got in my face.

Bad choice.

After yelling "I don't care WHO you are", I proceeded to let her know how it was going to be.

It was a one way conversation after that, with me loudly and adamantly explaining how my conversation with the SI was going to go when I got home.

By the end of it, quite a crowd had gathered. It was great.

I hate folks (the AP) that think that just because they say they are "so and so", they think they can then say what's what. I see nothing wrong at all with the incident. Sorry your kid had to be so upset and good on you for the heavy backing :thu: Teachers need to listen more to parents or at least to parents that care.

I've been pretty careful to not get too crazy at my kids school because I'll have at least one kid there every year until about 2022 since it's a K-8 school and my daughter won't get started there for another two years. And because it's the only really good school in the area. So far our experience has been good and I've only had one small "conversation" with a teacher there. And in the bigger picture it was pretty minor. I hate when a kid gets hosed by the system because an adult won't take the time to pay attention though. That'd piss me off.

I hope that you come out on top because often these 'organizations' try to use their power to 'put people in their place' when they are faced with a confrontation.

Awesome. I'm fed up with "Public Employees" in this state. Pretty much across the board, their attitude is we work for them.

And i've about had it.

I ALWAYS come out on top. The superintendent and I are very familiar with each other, and she knows I take no guff and accept no excuses. I try not to be a dick, and I would never go out of my way to make a scene in public, but this AP interjected herself into a situation she was both unfamiliar with, and unwelcome in. And, she did so in such a forceful and vigorous way, that she left me little choice but to light her up for it.

The reality is, that these people (The school board and the educators) are so used to parents being absent or apathetic, that when they are confronted by one that takes a pro-active role in their child's education, they have no clue how to respond. They are used to throwing their weight around and having people who are unaware of their rights just accept what they are told and go about their business. I just don't operate that way. And I make sure to remind them that all 3 of my kids are GATE students, have never had a disciplinary problem and have 2 countywide academic championships among them so far. I am not deluded into assuming they can do no wrong, and if they are truly at fault for something, I will be harder on them than the school will to be sure.

For the most part, we have had some great experiences and worked with some truly remarkable people along the way. But, every now and then, we run across one or two that seem totally disconnected from the realities and responsibilities of their chosen profession. It is those situations that I become their worst nightmare.

Anyway, shortly after posting the OP, I got the call I knew was coming, and we all went back down to the school to meet with the AP and the teacher in question. I got some apologies and made some good headway in terms of making sure we are all on the same page.

I've had a few run ins with teachers in my kid's school over the years, but they have been fairly minor. One parent teacher conference things last year was the most recent. I forgot all about it, and I was at home cleaning the garage, swapping the air filter in my car, and doing some other dirty stuff. My wife called me and told me to get to the school, as we had this meeting, so I went there looking like a crawled out of a cardboard box on the street corner. The teacher immediately pulled an attitude, talking down to me as if I was some uneducated moron, but talking to my wife like a normal adult. I kind of took it for a while, but about halfway through I kind of snapped and called her on it in a fairly aggressive way. Even if I did craw out of a box, she doesn't need the demeaning attitude, and she should be happy that I care enough about my child to show up for the meetings. I wonder how many hard working people who rushed from work she pulled this shit on over the years. I used some of my big college words that I'm sure she had to look up after I left. I even told her that I wouldn't even consider taking a faculty position at the third tier university form where she has her undergraduate, and only undergraduate, degree.

At least you didn't fire off a "eat a bowl of dicks" line! I'm sure you wish the situation turned out different, but sometimes a little ass kicking is required.

My sister is one of those so-called "Educators". She even has a masters for "gifted and special education" from Baylor. What a waste of money that was. She finally has moved to a job at a college, so she is less threatening to the future of mankind, or at least the local school district.

Uhh, I was a GATE student. drool0

Just sayin' :helper:

But yeah, most teachers have to deal with parents who don't want to know what's happening, so when something goes wrong it's not their fault. What a retarded way of looking at things. Glad you got it handled :thu:

So sad, yet so true. I've seen far too many "parents" expect the school to raise their children for them.

Same here. We always make sure the excellent teachers know we appreciate their extra efforts.

DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM?

I NEVER go there. In fact, I go out of my way to NOT let them know who I am. Sometimes, one of them will figure it out on their own, like last week when one of them wanted to write an article about me in the school paper... To which I had to gracefully decline. It's better for everybody for me to be just a normal, anonymous dude.

I don't think that would work for me, unless I wanted to be told '"no, I don't know who you are"

lol, yeah, i can count on one hand people that could answer yes, and even then they won't care.

I've actually said "Do you know who I am?" to a "problem" teacher before.....
lol.....

It wasn't funny when I did it, I was pissed off......I stopped short of telling them I would have their job, but at the time, I was gonna make it my mission in life.......

I think my last words were along the lines of "Well, we'll just see about that, now won't we?"

In the end, I got my way, got a "state-sponsored" apology, and it was all good.

Some people are fucking assholes, and you just have to deal with them. Some people shouldn't be teachers of small children.

It's karma, man, karma....

Funny thread. It started with OGG being upset by the AP for announcing herself as such, and ended with some others proudly pulling the "do you know who I am?" line. Supremely ironic.
