Just cancelled my Pro Tools 9 order.

Just so you know, everything is working great. I've got about 18 tracks recorded and got another 6-8 to go. Everything is working. :cool:
 
And here it is. The first full blown recording session with PT9. 8 tracks of drums, 1 bass, I think 5 tracks of guitars, and about 8 tracks of vocals. Plus a bunch of inserts and a few auxillaries.

And unfortunately (or maybe fortunately), I played the drums well enough that I didn't bother using the beat detective thing. :embarrassed:
 
So, I'm stuck in a hotel room in Winston-Salem, NC and I brought my laptop and all my software install discs hoping I could use this week to mix a song on my laptop that I've been recording at home.

Tried to install the iLok. Had to go to the iLok site and download the driver. Got that done.

Put in the Protools disk and hit install.

"Protools 9 is not compatible with Windows Vista and can not be installed"

Oh well. Another check in the box of why Windows Vista sux I guess. :embarrassed:

I'm very glad I was able to bypass vista. I have machines that run XP, Win 7 and Macs and they all seem to work fine for the most part.

Yeah Microsoft seems to get it right about every other release.

Win 98 - good
Win ME - Worst OS ever
Win XP - good
Win Vista - A close runner up to ME
Win 7 - so far so good.

In Cubase, I'd record a track, then click on the "FX" button of the track. From there, I could put inserts on the individual track, or I could add auxillary plugins that were shared with whatever tracks you enable them on. On that same screen, you'd adjust the parameters of the effect and the output level. So your auxes were sent and received right there on the same track. With PT, it looks like you have to send the aux from the source track and return it onto a completely seperate track. That's kind of nice in that you can route things however you want (like maybe through outboard gear, which I don't use), but I imagine it could make the mix screen a little more cluttered than I'm used to, since you'd have to have a track on the mix screen for each Aux return.

This is why I've never left Cubase. It just seems so much more user friendly.

After spending a couple of months with Pro Tools, it's definitely worth the switch for me. After getting used to the slight changes, I've found the functionality of all the features is a whole lot better than my old version of Cubase SX.
